Timney Trigger Question

Hey everyone, looking to get a Timney trigger for my Remington 700 SPS Varmint in .308 Win.

My question is, do I need the one with or without the safety, or will either work just fine?

Thanks everyone...

I'm not a Remington expert by any means.

Since the safety on a Remington is a "triggler lock" safety I would spend the extra money and get the Timney with the safety, that way you aren't trying to fit the factory safety to an aftermarket trigger.

Unless you are good with your hands, then fitting the factory safety to an aftermarket Timney is easy for you.

+1 for Jimro's suggestion to get the Timney with the safety.

I put a Timney in my SPS Varmint a few months ago and I made sure that I got the one with the safety included.

The Timney trigger unit is pretty easy to install if you follow the instructions but you need to be aware that the Timney trigger is wider than the Remington trigger so you may need to grind a bit off the trigger guard assembly where the trigger enters the stock so there is adequate clearance.

I had to take about 1/32nd off the edge of the trigger guard slot where the trigger goes through.

Also, be aware that the Timney trigger adjusts by moving the adjustment nut out away from the trigger unit.

If you want a light trigger, I wanted 2 lbs, the nut may protrude out into the stock.

I mounted the trigger to be sure it was fitted correctly and then measured the pull. It was 3 lbs 6 oz from Timney.
When I took the action out and adjusted the nut to lighten the trigger, it wouldn't slide into the stock when I tried to reassemble the rifle.
It had slid right in when the trigger wasn't adjusted yet.
I had to do a slight bit of grinding on the stock to get the action to slide into the stock.

No big deal. It took about an hour total, including measuring and adjusting the trigger pull and the extra grinding.
