Hello all, I just purchased a Timney trigger for my Ruger M77 II. It functions properly for the first 10-15 pulls of the trigger but after that doesn't "reset" as the bolt is cycled. Anyone have this problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have an email into timney but I figured that looking down alternate avenues is a good idea. Thanks

Timney trigger problems

Sounds like either:
1- No clearance between the sear and the receiver, causing binding
OR
2- No clearance between the nose of the trigger and the sear, causing binding and interference inside the trigger group itself.
Take the trigger back out of the action. Push down on the sear and see if it will bind on the trigger nose. If not, look at the slot where the sear goes through the receiver, and check for interference. If the problem is binding in the receiver slot, use a small file or stone to relieve the hole in the receiver. If the problem is inside the trigger, call Timney.

Scorch, thanks for the replay. I will look into both of your suggestions but why would the trigger work the first few times and then fail to "reset" after a number of cycles? I would think that if the problem was a clearance issue like you stated then wouldn't that affect the trigger all the time. If I am failing to understand you please feel free to explain. Thanks again

Trigger Fix......
Well gentlemen, when I first posted the problem I was using the trigger spring that Timney supplied. On top of the binding problem it was probably too light for hunting purposes. Since my last post I tried a Wolff light weight trigger that was adequate for hunting as far as weight goes but it also didn't always reset. Finally I tried the ruger factory spring and although not as light as the others it works fine, every time. Truthfully I feel better with the addition trigger pull weight. It breaks like a glass rod and there is virtually no over travel. Thanks for the infomation and help. Take care.
