Timer suggestions

I've decided to buy a timer to practice for USPSA / Action Pistol events. Any suggestions as to which timer and why? :confused:

What kind do they use at the range where you shoot the most matches? I'd go with that. We have three or four timers at some of our club shoots, all different, which is a pain in the neck.

The "official" Freeport Practical Shooters timer is the PACT Club Timer II

Easy to use, it's half the price of the Dawson one, and personally, I like it better....

Personally I would buy the PACT because of the lifetime warranty.
 
Uh, yeah...good point....they do appear to be the same price. Hmm...

Ok, price is not a mitigating factor....the PACT II is still a good timer, though.

Coulda sworn they were cheaper. Oh well -- I've been wrong about more important things :)

has the Pocket Pro for $116.79. A slight edge in price; I've also heard the Pact II has some durability and battery life problems.
 
I have a Pact CTII and a Mark IV. The Mark IV is the better practice timer. It's more complicated and more expensive, but it's better geared towards practice: easier to set par times, random start, cadence, etc.

I practiced with a CTII for a long time and it was great - although the lack of a random start is a real downside.

PS: If you get a MkIV, you'll want to do something about the beep - it's way loud. I covered the speaker with kleenex for a while, then I modified it with a volume control...much better :)

It's not that bad on batteries. My MKIV, however, eats batteries. We have all CTII's for our club and they are like little tanks. No problems, ran one in the pouring rain for 6 hours last weekend w/o any trouble at all.
