I got this 60's era Ruger #1 heavy barreled (Douglas) action (300 win mag) from a friend (Bill) still wrapped in the original oil paper. Bill had ordered it for testing purposes because he and some partners had formed a company to build the "Omega" rifle.I ordered the English Walnut stock blank from a company in CA and Bill and I attached the rosewood forend and grip cap in his wood shop then took it to a stock maker in New Braunfels, TX. As is normal, he said I would be on a 1 year waiting list. After a year had passed I stopped by to check on progress. There was no progress because he had died some months earlier. His widow allowed me to find the gun and stock in his shop. So I then took it to a firm "Kliengunther" who had a stock maker but he had moved to Georgia. They shipped it to GA. Another year later I got the finished product (3 years from when I first got the gun). Anyway, I thought I would take it one step further. At that time I could still order a new 15x Unertl. Fun stuff.

Holy horehound, batman. That's magnificent. Love the marbleing. It's nice and conservative with just a little pizzazz.

Is this the same Kleingunther that sold the K14?

"Is this the same Kleingunther that sold the K14?"

K14, K15, K22.

Kleingunther Distinctive Firearms (KDF, Inc.) - They're just down the road from me. Known for their high-end (very high) German rifles and muzzle brakes.

If you're not familiar with Unertl, they have a recoil spring. The rifle moves backward with recoil, the scope stays nearly stationary. Very, very important with a 300 win mag. An external adjustment scope is much different, big, heavy, but still a very precise scope. I also have a Ruger #1 in 25-06 with target blocks that I use this scope on.

Thanks everyone. No, it's not for sale, yet. After waiting for so long having the stock done, I might as well keep it a while longer. I don't shoot it. It's got exactly 20 factory rounds through the barrel. Just enough to sight in at 200 yds. Also, for me, 20 rounds of 300 win mag at one sitting is more than enough fun in one day.

I enjoy showing it off especially here on TFL. That way everyone can look at it but not touch it. hehe
