Hey guys im in the market for a new rifle. It will be in a 308 and its going to be toped with a zeiss 3x9x40 conquest. Now for the rifle, i have it down to a tikka lite or a remington 700. just wondering what you guys would prefer. and the other question that i have is. If i would get the remington what one should i get. I do not want the sps i dont like the stocks on them (i have a 204 in a sps) and not wanting to buy a rifle and have to put a new stock on it.

Tikka for me

I'm not impressed with Remington.

I like that they're US-made, but I believe the Tikka to be a superior rifle.

If you're looking at the Tikka Lite, I think the Remington 7 is the comparable one.

I wasn't particularly impressed with Remington either, until I happened to walk into my favorite gun shop and found an older Rem700 in the used gun rack. It's a .308 in the 700 ADL flavor (wood stock, blind mag, sporter barrel). The price was VERY right, so I picked it up.

According to the date stamp, it was made in 1983. Very nice rifle.

Yea i thought i knew what i wanted witch was the tikka but yesterday i went and talk to my gunsmith and he said to get the remington

I'm not much on the new Rems either but if you can find a good used older 700 heck yea.have a friend that has the tikka varmint it shoots great& looks good also.I'm going to try the tikka in 2506 Myself good luck with your choice.

I have a Tikka T3 Lite in .308 and love most everything about it. Between the ergonomics and the accuracy, it's an awesome little gun. I only have a problem with two things: the scope rings and the detachable, crazy expensive, magazine. I haven't lost a magazine yet, but it wouldn't be hard. And I don't like having a sort of specialty scope rings. Although the factory rings haven't given me any trouble yet, I'm considering replacing them just to avoid any future problems.

The weight is a two-edged sword. Weighing in at only 6.5 lbs, shooting from the bench it'll whomp ya, especially with the factory recoil pad. Change that ASAP. But it's a breeze to carry through the woods all day. You barely notice it.

All in all, I love my Tikka. And for the money, I don't think you could go wrong. Just have to get over it's little quirks.
