Time for a new one

I'm in the market for a new revolver and I've narrowed my search down to two. I been eyeing a Model 25 Smith Wesson and a Model 625 JM. I'm only going to use it as a range toy. I have other revolver cartridges already, missing revolvers in those to calibers.

Just wanted your guys and gals opinions and if anybody has any other suggestions I'm open.

As a range toy, either one would be fine. I would prefer the Model 25 from the standpoint of general interest and collectability. It is a real mitt full of pistol and very smooth and accurate. Showing up at the range with one of those will label you as a shooting mensch among those whose opinions really count.

A consideration.

If you reload lead bullets the 25-2 (45acp) will probably not put a smile on your face. I have owned 3 and none of them shot lead well at all. Shallow rifling being a lot of the problem. They came in both 6 and 6-1/2 Inch versions.
They shoot jacketed bullets just fine.

The 25-5 (45 Colt) should shoot lead bullets with no issues. They have real rifling in them. They came in 4, 6, and 6-1/2 Inch versions I believe.

The JM625's should shoot lead bullets just fine also. The earlier versions of the 625 are great revolvers also.

My current one is a 625-3 w/3" barrel. I had Ron Power rebarrel it to 5" for IDPA several years ago. The IDPA Rule Change to 4" barrels messed up that plan, and I decided I was not rebarreling it a second time to 4". I had Ron put the Original 3" barrel back on it 3 years ago. I just started shooting ICORE, and now wish I had left it alone as a 5" for a Limited Revolver. OH Well

Hope I have been of some help.

Bob

My 25-2 has always shot well with cast bullets. It was made for NRA bullseye competition, and not many of those shooters used jacketed bullets. If you do not handload, then with half-moon or full-moon clips you can shoot the cheapest .45 ACP you can find in any Model 25.
