TIKKA WHITETAIL

A friend of mine is looking at a Tikka Whitetail rifle in .270 Win. cal, unfired in the box for $550. I told him that sounded like a real good deal to me. The rifle has a wood stock with likenesses of a buck and doe carved/engraved in it. Can anyone tell us anything about this rifle?

I would have suggested searching Tikka but the search function appears to be down.

There were many threads on this subject and the consensus is that these are very good rifles. They are owned by Sako and accuracy is not in question. I have one in .223 that is my predator/varmint rifle and it is smooth, accurate, handsome and has an adjustable trigger. The Tikka rifles are one of the great bargains providing you can live with the use of plastic in the trigger guard and elsewhere. If you can, they are the best deal around. I would buy another one should the opportunity arise.

If your friend does not object to a synthetic stock, a new Tikka can be had for as low as $299. An even better bet would a new Sako TRG-S for around $600......

Tikka rocks!

I am a big fan of Tikkas.

You can view their home page at http://www.sako.fi (Tikka is a sub-brand of Sako, Ltd of Finland).

The Whitetail hunter rifle is an exceptional value for the money. I don't know about finding Tikkas for $299, but a good new Tikka should cost you just as much as a new Rem 700 ADL and you would get an exceptionally accurate rifle out of the box, with an adjustable trigger, dual locking lugs, a good choice of calibers (223 Rem to .338 Win) and Beretta USA's customer service (as Sako is now part of the Beretta Group).

Also, take a look at the Whitetail Stainless Synthetic (same configuration as hunter but with ss/synthetic combination) or the Tikka Continental Long Range Hunting (a bull-barrel, 26" tubed rifle ideal for both varminting and regular hunting).

Tikka rocks!

Bass Pro Shops sell Tikka Whitetail Hunters for $299, and magnums for about $30 more. You can try their website. Good Luck with them! I bought a 7mm mag and it is the best rifle that I have.

OK, I'm at the Bass Pro Shop website, and I see no Tikka rifles for sale at any price. How about a specific reference, or perhaps a Bass Pro catalog number to search on? I have my doubts about them selling them at this price, but if they do, I'm a customer right now!

If you still have a doubts about this, send your email address and I'll send you a scan of my receipt. Non mags were $30 less. The http://www.Shooters.com board also has several past posts about the rifles at this price, and thats how I found out about this deal. I hope that you get one soon.

GB: I checked Bass Pro Shops in Atlanta after first seeing a post by you about "stealing" a Tikka. The Bass Pro price for standard caliber Tikkas in Atlanta is over $400. The price that you paid for your Tikka is one of the best bargains on a rifle that I've seen. I'd snap one up in a minute if I could find the caliber that I wanted at that price.

Walter:
Ask to be put on their mailing list. Several friends have bought them there after I have. Maybe they will have a sale again soon.
Good Luck,
GB

Thank you all for your responses. I will forward this thread to my friend. Now you've gone and made me want a Tikka too.....
