Tig welding tutorial video.

All,

I wanted to share this with the Gunsmiths on here, that may want to learn to TIG weld, as I was given a copy of the DVD, and it is very good. The title is: "TIG Welding Basics by Ron Covell". He takes his time, and explains everything about the machine, setup, gas types, tips, gas flow, and how to do it. This is probably one of the best I have seen, and it really is just as good as getting an instructor to teach you. I learned the hard way, and wish I had had this video a long time ago. You can find this on Amazon, but you can also probably find a good used copy on eBay. I highly recommend this.

Ron Covell is a well known metal fabricator and automotive customizer. He has a monthly column in one of the auto magazines on metal fabrication techniques and I would expect any thing by him to be excellent.

SVO,

True, and the best part of the video is the close-up view of the weld being made, while showing how to add the filler metal into the arc. That is something you will only see in a class, while watching an instructor. There are so many tips on the DVD, you almost need a notepad to write them down. The things, we, who have done this for a while, take as a grain of salt, the new guy needs that info to do it correctly, and I know I would forget to explain it.

One thing I ought to mention, if I were going to get a machine, don't get one without a high frequency arc starter. Save your money, and buy one at the extra cost, as you will never have to "touch down" to strike a tig arc, just simply use a pedal, or a trigger. There is a whole world of difference.

I have $2k ~ $2.5k invested in TIG equipment, and 6 years later all I have done was weld more material on the top of a Mauser trigger where I had ground too much off the rear hump.

I need to learn how to do it.
