Three Walthers!!!

I hit paydirt yesterday!!!! My somewhat wealthy friend decided that he didn't want his "modern" Walthers. SOOOOOO, he disposed of them by sending them my way. I now have a P1 (P38), a P5, and a P99!!!!! This P5 is NICE!!!!! It takes the cake as the neatest gun I have ever seen.

Denfoote, I think you are a very lucky person. I have a P88 and a PP and I am pleased with them both. Regards, Richard

Path,
How do you like your P5?? I have never fired this particular beast. The P99, and P38, yes. But not the P5. How does it shoot. Also, my friend warned me not to feed it Gold Dots. He says they jam in the rifling. What about this? I think I am going to carry this gem!!!

Good for you! What a stroke of luck.

I love all of my Walthers from my German TPH to my P88 to my Model 7. The P5 is an excellent duty or concealed carry weapon. Practise with the mag release and you be changing them almost as fast as the guys with the button release, except they don't drop free. I kind of like that. It may keep you from losing or damaging a mag.

Speaking of mags, they aren't cheap for the P5. $76.00 was the last one I priced. I found one brand new for $35.00 about two tears ago.

If you like it now, you ought to see it with wood grips on it from Earl's Repair Service. $165.00 from Germany.

Have fun.
:D

PS, The action's pretty slick on that P5 ain't it!

denfoote,

It shoots like a dream. She comes with an eight round magazine and she ejects left. The P-5 is easy to clear for a right hander as you just turn it down without having to cross your hand over the other.
My P-5 has shot everything I put thru her although I generally carry full metal jacket.
Be careful buying extra mags. I was told P-38 mags will allow you to keep the slide back. She won't feed though. Extra P-5 mags can cost you. I picked up 4 for 150 dollars. I am trult jealous of the deal you got! Good Luck and Good Shooting!

You don't want your holsters back do you, you, you goon?

First my friend hits the "set for life" lottery ticket- $1,000,000 and now my Arizona pen pal. Good thing I am not the jealous type eh ;)

All of this time, promoting the Walther, then the Glock, then the Makarov; you have come full circle my friends.

To all of the new Walther owners out there, this man was Walther, when Walther wasn't cool. I am glad you never bad mouthed the brand or else you would have to mail out the neew guns to me.

Please post your first range results.

I shoot 127 +P+ in my Walther P-5 without a hitch never jammed yet. I did install wolf eight lb springs in it. This has to be the best gun in regards to class in looks, feel and shooting, I have ever seen. I owned one many years ago and traded it in a weak moment. What a mistake that was I bought another new one never trade this one ever. One quality well made pistol bar none. You will love this gun so much that you want to shoot it every chance you get. Good luck with you walthers.

My local FFL has a NIB P5,but the price seems high to me . $ 790 bucks. Is it worth it?? I'm not happy with my P99--9mm,but that one didn't cost me as much as the P5s asking price..

$ 790.00 is too high I paid $575.00 new. Go to Gunsamerica.com under walthers and check out the prices there. No more than $650.00 and your doing fine for a new P-5.

No Hube, I don't want them back!!! My Bianchi Shadow will work for the P5, and oddly enough, the Fobus paddle that I originally bought for my G30 will also work for the P99!!!! Of the 3, I like the P5 best!!!! It's like comming back to an old girlfriend that you never quite got over!!!;) So, now I own Glocks Walthers, Makarovs, and Rugers!!! Strange, there have been no fights in the safe yet!!!

HKSigWalther: Yeah Free. :D

While we are on the subject of Walthers and P5's to be specific. Does anyone know a good Walther gunsmith? I love my P5 but
loathe the serrated trigger. I would love to find someone I trust
that can remove the serrations.

Indeed, you are fortunate to aquire three at once! Are these your first Walthers? If so, then beware....they are addictive. I fully concur that a set of wood grips on the P5 will double the appeal. This is unfortunate, as my wife has decided that the P5 is now the only pistol she'll use! So I had to go out and get a P99. I like it, but the trigger will never match the P5. I use to be able to shoot anything in it, but now it seems to only feed hardball reliably. The standing joke at the range is that my wife is the only person they know of that can jam a Walther while loading it, but I too have had trouble since with hollowpoints. I also have a P38K that's just as pretty in wood grips - don't soot it though, as its in 7.65 Para, and I'm leaving it mint. The prettiest of the lot though is the PP Super with Walther wood grips. I don't shoot that one too often, as loading 9x18 Ultra is a pain. The PPK again looks fantastic in one-piece Walther thumbrest wood grips, much better than the PPK/S. My American TPH also has the grips, which look good, but make it a bit uncomfortable to conceal. Trouble with that one is I broke an extractor, and cant find anyone who has one. My current problem seems to be that my 14 year old has taken a fancy to the P99 for IDPA shooting. I don't want to stiffle his interest, so I'm continuing my search for a P88 to buy. Oh well!
You may want to try a P55 holster for the P5 - some of them fit rather well. As several others have commented, look around for the mags! They are indeed high. I got mine in Europe a few years ago for about $25 each. Earl's I belive has them.
I would say "Good Luck", but it seems yours is holding pretty good!
