Three-inch barrel Smith 27?

I am so pleased with my thirty-year-old P&R'ed Smith 27-2 that I would like to find one for use as an everyday carry weapon. Did Smith make P&R'ed 27s with a three-inch barrel? I know an "N" frame is hefty, but I have concealed five inch 627s and 27s, although a three-inch would be ideal. THANKS!

Three-inch barrel Smith 27

I read somewhere and am under the impression that the FBI Model 27 was put out in 2 3/4 inches. I am still looking for a cheap set of "N" fram conceal carry grips.

I think 3 1/2 is the shortest factory M27

I believe they were produced in:

3 1/2

4

5

6 1/2

8 3/8

Roger C: That 3-1/2" Smith & Wesson model 27 is certainly
a handsome devil. Way back when, I had one in nickel; but
I never could get the trigger to act right, so I got shed of it.
Kind'a wish I had it back.

RWK: I think Roger C has the barrel length's correct, as I
have never seen a 3" Smith model 27? At any rate, I know
you must really be enjoying that 5" model.

RWK, a man after my own heart. I too conceal N frames. My shortest is 4" tho.

I agree with Roger re the available barrel lengths.

However, there may well be some odd lengths out there. Useta be that odd sights and barrels could be special ordered at very little cost. Same with hammers, triggers etc.

None of this bank bustin performance center stuff.

The shortest M27 barrel is 3.5" and it can't be any shorter or the ejector rod housing would have to be cut. The 3.5 was the first barrel length offered when the .357 Magnum (pre-M27) came out in 1935. The FBI agents loved it although it is a big, heavy gun even in the short barrel length.
