I just heard a federal prosecutor say on
radio they were looking into threats against
S/W He said what SW was doing was correct
and they had a right to do business.
The threats he spoke of were, boycotting, and
dealers/retailers refusing to do business
with Smith. So this is what (our) government
considers a threat.
GOD help us and go vote.!!!!!!

Soooo....

Is the Clinton Administration going to force me to buy a Smith $ Wesson?

Boy! Talk about a media coup! Can you see the headlines? "Bill Clinton and Janet Reno Sue to Force Homeowners to Buy Handguns!" (Well, if I have to...

)

Interesting, but I'm not really worried about it.

Ugh! The spin machine is really grinding away. This lunacy will go on and on as long as the Clintonistas are in power in Washington.

Actually, there HAVE been a lot of threats against S&W.

They were threatened that, if they did NOT sign the agreement, they'd be hit with lawsuits the legal costs of which alone would have driven them out of business.

Battler.

Gone are the days of reason and honesty. I am afraid that our government has lost all pretense of even pretending to follow the law and honor the constitution, and to respect any of our rights. We already live in a police state! Gun foes and gun advocates alike know for a fact, even if some will not admit it, that White House funded lawsuits against the gunmakers are extortion, illegal, unconstitutional and a perversion of the separation of powers. Now, they have decided that if the dealers, wholesalers, and I suppose customers, no longer but sh*t&wesson products, that violates the governments anti-trust laws. All I can say to that is WTF? Now we all MUST buy sh*t&wesson products by government mandate? A bunch of attorney generals who are, remember, non-elected government bureaucrats, have decided that a "boycott" (to you and I it's called "freedom of choice") now constitutes a violation of the ANTI-TRUST laws. Report: Gun Industry Investigated

NEW YORK (AP) - An antitrust investigation has begun to see if gunmakers are targeting Smith & Wesson in retaliation for its agreement to put safety locks on handguns, The New York Times reported today.

The probe is being conducted under state laws in New York, Connecticut and Maryland, said Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut's attorney general. He said more states were expected to become involved and subpoenas were imminent.

Earlier this month, Smith & Wesson agreed to include safety locks with all handguns and pistols - external locks will be on the weapons in 60 days and internal locks installed within two years. New firearms would not be allowed to accept magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

The company also agreed to devote 2 percent of firearms revenues every year to developing ``smart'' technology that limits a gun's use to its rightful owner. The gunmaker, in addition, will not advertise or market its products in a way that appeals to juveniles or criminals, such as ads claiming guns are fingerprint-proof.

In exchange, a number of municipalities, states and the federal government agreed to drop threatened lawsuits over gun violence.

However, officials told the Times that other gun manufacturers and dealers opposed to the settlement have since put financial pressure on Smith & Wesson, based in Springfield, Mass.

A top wholesaler will no longer carry company weapons, retailers will not sell Smith & Wesson products and the National Rifle Association has accused the company of surrendering to Clinton administration demands, the Times reported.

``We are seeing behavior on the part of Smith & Wesson's competitors that raises the specter of illegal antitrust activity,'' New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer said. ``This is serious stuff.''

Robert Delfay, president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, denied the accusation.

``I could not be more confident that these are just independent actions by businessmen,'' Delfay said.

IMHO, this is INSANE and has to stop. What these government officials are doing HAS to be illegal, and probably could be considered a felony under Title 18, U.S. Code, Sections 241 and 242: http://www.webleyweb.com/lneil/18usc.html which states that conspiring to deprive someone of their constitutional rights is a felony. Problem is, how do you get the DAs to prosecute themselves?

Please identify this outstanding public servant so that I can provide him with the names of several Mayors and a Cabinet member who are responsible for threatening Slick & Wesson. These criminal thugs need to be locked up NOW!

If your and my economic boycott of Smith & Wesson is threatening, so too are United States economic sanctions past and present against Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Serbia, South Africa...at least we have not bombed S&W or Tomkins from 17,000 feet, with all the 'collateral damage' that implies...

Blumenthal was interviewed this morning on a radio show. He said the conspiracy, if it exists, would be related to restraint of trade. The host asked him why cities getting together to favor S&W was not unfair restraint of trade. Blumenthal answered that governments, state and Federal, are specifically exempted from such conspiracy suits. Now, there's a principled defense!

It is a classic example of liberal bias in the government meeting liberal bias in the media. Elect George W. Bush or get at least four more years of the same thing!

Just expect this to keep getting worse as the election approaches; Clinton is desperate to strike some major blow against us before power slips from his hands. Preferably something that a Republican President couldn't easilly reverse. And yet his power to do things legitimately in that area is shrinking daily, as the Republicans know that they don't dare piss us off right before an election, and wouldn't want to give Clinton/Gore a public victory anyway.

So these criminal assaults on our rights are only going to get worse. Frankly, I'm afraid to think of what Clinton might try if Bush wins; Hand copies of all the Brady check data to HCI before it can be erased, at the least. (Could an injunction be obtained against this? It ought to be looked into!)Maybe a BATF or DEA raid against pro-gun organizations, with planted evidence so they can confiscate assets. Remember, this is a guy who has bombed innocent people in Sudan just to get a day or so of breathing space during the impeachment battle; He's capable of anything, and knows the Democrats won't let him be brought to justice.

Friends, IMHO, this is a watershed event.

Remember the Citibank outrage? This is worse.

Consider carefully the actual implications of what we are seeing. IMHO, they are immense. This is a usurpation of power like I never, ever thought I would see in the United States.

We have the executive branches of government, at federal and state levels, extorting industry compliance with new policy. Policy which they were unable to achieve through the legislative process.

Now that they have begun to accomplish their power grab, they are striking back at the remainder of the industry ... other citizens, in essence ... who are unwilling to cooperate in this nearly fascistic outrage.

It makes one wonder what, if any limits they perceive in their own power? Are we to believe that our governments can extort not only compliance with executive policy in spite of Congressional opposition, but also extortion of cooperation with a foreign-owned company that capitulates to this kind of power grab.

This is an affront to all Americans, it goes to the heart of our constitutional republic, and we cannot stand for this kind of governmental intrusion.

I can only add that this landscape looks more and more like a battlefield everyday. This kind of behavior must be brought to an end, but it will take courageous people, especially in Congress, to change this landscape.

He's right, they do have a right to do business. Just like I have a right not to do business with them. Just like you have the right not to.

It would seem to me that law suits against the industry are fall under Anti-Trust. So th eGovernment is guilty of the very thing they are crying about us doing to S&W. What's wrong with that picture???

From http://CNN.com/2000/SHOWBIZ/TV/03/30/television.god.reut/index.html
"Late Wednesday NBC pulled the plug on "God, the Devil and Bob," the animated comedy a number of network affiliates have been refusing to air. The series had come under fire from several religious groups, including the Rev. Donald Wildmon's American Family Association. By Tuesday's final broadcast, 22 stations had joined the anti-"God" bandwagon, preempting the show in roughly 5 percent of the country. That's more than the number of stations that refused to clear "NYPD Blue" in its first season."

I presume New York, Connecticut, and Maryland (and more states) are preparing antitrust investigations at this very moment, along with subpoenas….

Alright, folks. I have my own business and not one of you has patronized it. You'll be hearing from my attorneys and the Justice Department on Monday.
