I got an 870 barrel with no rib that shoots 2/4" shells. It is 28" long and I would like to cut it off at 20" and have it threaded for choke tubes. Is this possible and if so what are the costs approx. and the chances it will be done correctly( is it hard to do properly)?

Sure you can! Back in gunsmithing school i did enough of these and glass bedding to have paid my way through school, but no kick backs, i was there to learn. Back then there was only a couple diffrent chokes out, now days you have several to pick from. When you pick your Smith, just make sure he has done several in the past, its not a hard job to do,so make sure his name is not Bubba and you should be alright. I am a rifle looney so shotguns are a thing of the past for me. We did them in the early eighties for around $60bucks and gave one free tube with the job. I would think it's a little higher now. Someone with the equiptment will chime in and get ya closer to cost today...yes it can be done!

60 bucks sound plenty enought for me -much more I can buy a new barrel.
Since this one was for free I may let Bubba take stab at it. The Bubbas in my new neck of the woods continue to surprise me with their skills.
