I bought a new single shot bolt action to teach my 10 yr. grand-child how to shoot. I want to put a scope on it down the road after her learning iron sights.
What the heck thread pitch is it threaded for? It seems to be a 6-32 maybe but when I start a screw it is tight and I don't want to bugger the threads.

Help me o seasoned ones.:)

It is 6-48. And no, you will not find them at a hardware store. But whatever base you buy will likely come with screws. If not, you can get them from most gun shops.

I just used a big screwdriver and forced the screws into place.

Thanks for the input folks!:D
I went to my favorite LGS and he had the right screws for me.
