Thoughts on using a Belly Band for concealed carry

I have been looking at some Belly Bands to carry my Glock 27. I tend to wear a lot of shorts and t shirts and was wondering peoples opinion on this method.
I've looked at the Desantis Brand belly band. Any thoughts or helpful tips on this method.

I have used them before. Depending on how much belly you are banding, it turned into more of a shoulder holster type thing.
Mostly carried a 380 in it. The butt of anything larger printed a bit.

I have found the crossbreed supertuck allows me to carry a full size 1911 in t-shirt and shorts. With a good belt.

I use one sometimes, banded just beneath my bra, with the gun's handle between the bra cups. For a woman with some curves, it can be an excellent way to conceal a gun while wearing shorts and a t-shirt, as long as you are careful to wear a stretchy t-shirt that allows you to draw the gun quickly when you need to. (A boat neck or v-neck work well; a higher neck on a less stretchy t-shirt does not.)

I don't find them particularly hot, but that's because I made my own and just attach my usual holster to it. It's easy if you have any craft or sewing skills -- I just took a worn out leather belt I had that looked terrible, lined it on the inside with a doubled-over layer of linen that was twice as thick as it was, and stuck velcro on the ends of the linen. The belt buckle sits on top of the overlapping linen inner band at around eleven o'clock, and the holster attaches to the belt at twelve noon.

If you're a woman or man who carries extra pounds around your waist (as opposed to hips), this can be a good way to carry.

I'm going to Florida in Oct. - I'm going to use this carry method, when wearing shorts. I'm gonna try 2 different guns in it, while I'm there. - a Glock 27, and a Small frame 5 shot .357. Seems like the Glock would be more comfortable, but you never know. I've probably tried every carry method known, except a belly band. So, I'm looking forward to it.

If you decide to get one, you'll have to let us know how you like it. Being that I also want to carry a Glock 27 in it, I'm curious to know how well it works for you.

i bought one a while ago, very hot and sweaty, even with an undershirt.

i gave it to my dad, he uses it with his s&w 59 and loves it.

I have found the product to be the most comfortable and secure belly band type product I have tried. For one thing it does not 'roll up' with the flow of my belly.

They are hot. They add size to your waist. They are somewhat slow to draw. Reholstering is dangerous unless you drop your pants. Retention is questionable.

It's also the only semi-satisfactory way I've found to carry when I must have a tucked shirt

I have not been satisfied with any "tuckable" holster so far and, yes, I've tried a few of the better-known brands. With a Glock, all of the tuckable holsters made me look like I had a hip deformity. In order to cover the bulge and hide the belt clips, I had to blouse the shirt to the point where it didn't look "neat" anymore. If I'm going to look sloppy, I might as well untuck.

Part of the problem is probably that I insist on carrying at my standard 4 o'clock waist position. Others whom I respect are starting to sing the praises of appendix carry. This might make the Smartcarry or another "deep concealment" setup more viable. However, carrying a Glock and having a hangup about not shooting a hole in my femoral artery makes me afraid to do appendix carry.

I personaly would lean towards pocket carry. I pocket carry a J-Frame, or G26 or my favorite G36. I find this method very comfy. Tight fitting shorts as with all tight fitting shorts and shirts WILL NOT conceal well.

I like another use for my smart carry...rotate it 90 degress so holster is about 3:30 and then wrap the velcro just at or above waistline...the holster fits tight on your side OWB or just above and a t-shirt can be worn...I prefer this in the summer when I hate having anything stuffed in my pants or shorts.

Belly bands

Belly bands are OK if you cannot wear a jacket or other cover garment. They are hot. Kramer makes a holster tee shirt, that should be an alternative to the belly band.

The thought of that last comment probaby just killed sales of those holsters in several states, at least:barf:

They're great under a sweater or sweatshirt in the winter time. In the summer....not so much. I use a DeSantis, myself, when I use it. As I said, under a sweater I had no problem, cross-draw, hiding even a H&K USPC. It was never too heavy, nor did I ever feel like it was going to fall out. Your G27 would be a piece of cake as was my G26. Biggest consideration will be "strong-side or cross-draw?" Either way won't be a quick-draw rig, but for me cross-draw was a little quicker.
