I owned one for about three years. Absolutely loved that little pistol. It was the first gun I ever bought for myself. Shot circles around a LOT of people using larger "target model" pistols, too.

I "went Glock" for my autos, and I sold the P239 to get the funds for my G19.

New, I think the P239's are going for about $400-425.

If you get one, you won't be sorry. The only thing that I ever held against that gun was that it was a tad bit on the heavy side for its size. If you're looking for a concealed piece, take some time with it in a holster at the gun shop if they'll let you. I can't imagine that they would object.

But that is the ONLY thing that I didn't like.

I put about 7,000 rounds through it over those three years, and it was simply magnificent to shoot.

I have about 30 handguns to choose from when I get dressed in the morning but my 239 goes with me every day. It's an extraordinary firearm (well made, perfectly reliable... blah - blah - blah) but there are a lot of extraordinary firearms out there these days. The 239 simply fits my hand, my carry style, and my shooting instincts better than any other gun I've found in it's class.

I can't say enough about them but, as Bob said, you'll need to try one for a while to see if you'll feel the same.

I paid about $400 for mine a couple of years ago. Don't know if the price has gone up or down since then.

I can only echo what Bob and JJR have said. I bought my P239 about 3 years ago for $399. It has been absolutely reliable, the only gun I have that has had zero malfunctions of any kind. It is usually within 2 ft. or less during my work day. I love my .45's of all types, but for some reason the P239 is usually the closest at all times. I really think that subconsciously, the flawless function is probably the answer.

Well actually I'm thinking about trading in a barely used 2340. My wife can't handle the bounce and flash of the .40, and I need a Gun both of us can use. The ammo for the 9 is cheaper and i would rather give up some power, then have a gun the wife can't really use well. The 2340 is a little stout for my hand, and I'm not thrilled about the trigger. The 2340 only has about 600 rounds through it, At the prices you guys are quoting I should be able to trade it almost straight across with no cash, or at least very little.

Yes I know, keep both, and I would if I could but I can't afford it.

Also I wanted something that would be concealable if I ever felt the need, and the 2340 is way too big to conceal on me, I'm not a big guy

Sig 239s in N Va now go for about $540 new and about $480 used in great condition. They are wonderful shooters. Practice ammo is cheap and there are plenty of quality 9mm defense loads. You and the spouse unit will be pleased with one.

The 9mm P239 is my son's choice for CCW. I found his for $380 with about 500 rounds put through it and it had the box and papers with it. It included 4 mags, 2 are 10 rounders. The best price I had found on a P239 in the last year was $429 NIB from KY Imports, but they were all .40 S&W. For a 9mm Dr Avery had them advertised for $449 and I he usually drops a little lower at gun shows.

I have a P239 in .40S&W. It's quite reliable and accurate. I don't use it much, though. I just don't like DA/SA. I prefer guns with a consistent trigger pull, either SA, striker-fired, or DAO. But that's a religious issue.

I don't carry it because it's rather large. My Kahr K40 is much smaller and slimmer, thus easier to conceal.

The P239 is a good gun, just not my favorite.

I owned a 239 9mm several years ago. Didn't care for it, just felt wrong in MY hand. Recently got a great deal on a 225. Now that's a great pistol but not one you were asking about. I only mentioned it because it caused me to reexamine SIGs again and I went looking for 239 in .357. Picked one up and it still didn't feel right. If it fits your hand well then I'm sure it will be a great tool for you. If it doesn't fit well, get thee to a shoppe with a 225. :D

Andabeer: Do you know what you didn't like about the feel of the 239? To me, it feels very top heavy...

M1911,

the grip is just too squared in the frontstrap for me, those corners just do not match with the joints in my hand, very uncomfortable

AndaBeer, I had the same problem. The P239 does not index properly in my hand so I went with the P225. Changing the grip to a Hogue rubber grip does solve the P239 problem for me.

I will say that for a number of years I had the same thoughts about the 239, but due to circumstances beyond my control <g> (specifically, a ban on new handgun sales in Massachusetts) I bought a used one and =wow=. Shooting one is very different than handling one in a store. If you can borrow or rent one, give it a try -- you may be extremely surprised. I was!

I had a 239, but much preferred the way the 229 felt, both in my hand and trigger pull. As m1911 said, it feels top heavy, even more so than the 229.
