Thoughts on S&W 442 - without lock

So, I'm affraid I'm going to have to admit: 1) I've read, "The Firing Line Forums," too much to be able to buy a Taurus. 2) I looked hard at the XDS and I still passed on it. 3) I just bought a snubbie, its an S&W 442 and, I didn't notice that I got one without a lock till I got home!! So cool! 4) I take bad photos...

Rest easy. You bought one of the best snubs on the market and the fact you got one without the lock is awesome. Go shoot it, you'll be glad you bought it.

I've got one that I have never fired because I usually am carrying its cousin the 642, both without locks. I had one of each with locks that I sold. Great guns. A little snappy to shoot , but not bad.

Sweet looking lil snub! I love my 642, even with it's IL. A little polishing on the inside of mine made for a silky smooth pull. Just can't go wrong with 'em it seems.

Great score and congrats! :)

I grabbed one because the LGS had them on military/LE discount for $330 and there was a mail in rebate for $30. At $300 for a no-lock 442, I couldn't say no.

I spruced mine up a little with Magna grips and a Tyler T-grip.

Love it!

Metalife....

Nice buy! :)
If you have the time & $$$, Id suggest having the snub treated with Black-T or Metalife.
Robar NP3+ is good too but not cheap.

It will protect the .38spl & make cleaning/service a snap.

When did you order/get your Tyler? They still having delivery issues or have they caught up?

I've had that Tyler for about a year and just pilfered it off of one of my Model 36s.

I currently have an order in to Tyler for a couple more T-grips. So far, it's been about 3 weeks. Supposedly, they're up and running normally.

I have a several guns mostly revolvers and one semi-auto that I carry Two at a time for CCW. The 442 will be one I will always keep. It is my favorite pocket gun with my LCR357 a close second.

Can't beat that J frame configuration. I've had a 442 - traded for a 642. I also want to put in a good word for the 432 - six shots and very light. It's a 32 HR mag but new rounds are out for it. Critical Defense, etc.

I love my 642. I bought it just about a year ago and I carry it every single day. When I feel like carrying something bigger, I still carry the 642 as a backup.

I pocket carry in my weak side pocket in a nylon pocket holster. Nothing else in that pocket.

My thought is that it's a fine carry weapon. My own is a 642, but with the damn lock. Still, it's my favorite out of my carry rotation.
