thoughts on price of used Ruger .44 mag

I'm looking to get a Ruger Redhawk in .44 Mag for backcountry 'protection' against critters, and I found one in the paper for sale. 5.5", stainless with holster and 2 boxes of handloads for $425. I don't know the condition, but assuming it's good, is this a decent price?

New is $475.

Any reason I should get a longer barrel? I wanted to get 5.5" to make it easier to carry.

That's not a great deal. It all depends on what your local gun shops sell for, but 50 dollars more for new sounds better.

Price is relative, if you like it, if it looks and feels good, if it shoots good, and you got the money than it may be a great deal.

The guy should not have a problem with you firing it if it's used. I would want to shoot it first.

so he cocked both his pistols, spit in the dirt, and walked out into the street.

thanks for the reply. I decided it was too expensive :). I found a used, blue, 7.5" barrel Super Redhawk in a local shop for $259. It seems like a better deal.

A blued Super Redhawk? They only come in stainless. But the $259 is a good price for a Redhawk no matter what the color of its feathers. :)

I'm glad you passed up the first Redhawk, $425 is too much. And the 2 boxes of handloads would be a negative. The first thing I would do with them is pull the bullets, dump the powder on the grass and reload with a load I'm sure of.

Doh! The Ruger website shows the Super is available in blue. The handloads had me concerned, too.

Eric, we're probably both wasting more time on this than necessary. But, (there's always a but it seems) - I want to be sure you know what you're getting and a dealer isn't selling you a bill of goods, so to speak. The Super Redhawk comes only in SS and only DA. The Super Blackhawk comes in either SS or blued and is SA.

(The link I supplied was the only page that shows Super Redhawks - all in SS.)

5.5" stainless or blue Redhawk -- buy new.

(own 3 5.5" Redhawks, .41, 44, 45C, one 7.5" .357, all stainless, all awesome)
