Hi all!

After installing a scope on my first ever rifle, I took her to the range yesterday. What do you guys think about the groups on the bottom and top right? Shots were fired from 100 yards. The distance between the center of the brown cross and red line is 2 inches. Ignore the target in the middle - it was used for scope zeroing.

It looks like it's shooting OK - but I'm a total novice when it comes to rifle shooting. Based on these groupings, is my rifle zeroed OK? Am I making any obvious mistakes while shooting? What should my next steps be (in terms of training, buying equipment, etc.)?

i was using a plastic toolbox with a soft pistol holster on top to prop up the rifle - not the most elegant setup :)

Groups are fine for out to 300 yards as a hunter and buy all means try 400 yards . I would forget about 600+ until the rifle and you are shooter tighter . Try some different ammo / handloads.

You do have another practical hunting scope. 10 power is not going to work well at close range or long range and you have to assume see an intended animal can show up very close at time. Last being a world class shooter does not make a great hunter. That's learned over time and only taking of game will prepare you for that and learning to control the adrenalin rush you will get. One of the best natural shooter/hunters I know capable of some of hardest longer rang shots and snap shooting animals was one of the worse from the bench .

That's about 1 moa group at 100 yards, which is pretty good. I think the rifle itself is good for hunting deer at 400 yards. I personally wouldn't want to fire at an animal this far away. I would try to get closer than 200 yards.

6x to 24x magnification is a bit too much for deer hunting. The traditional 3x to 9x works great. 4x to 16x works a bit better as my eyes age.
