Thoughts about next 9mm...

I was thinking about my next 9mm handgun and would like input regarding choices. I currently have a Beretta 92, CZ 75 and Sig P320. The next choice priorities will be home defense, range gun and concealed carry, in that order. I'm pretty open to choices. I tend to favor larger sized handguns and I'm OK with hammer or striker fired. Thank you.

A full sized 1911 in 9mm is a good choice....there are a lot of 1911 options out there, but personally I favor Wilson Combat. ( 5" CQB or Protector models are my choices ).

You have good taste, nice 9's you have. Sounds like you have the home defense and range gun covered but are missing a compact conceal carry.

Sounds like you have a pretty good start with what you already have, I don't know how the Glock 17 or 34 would fare against that P320 in a range tryout, but it would be fun to find out.

I think I'd consider a .45 ACP for a home defense intended use, I can definitely recommend an HK45 or a Gen4 Glock 21, since I have both of these. I also really like the Walther PPQ in .45ACP. Good Luck & keep us posted on what you decide.

Why not get a size good for all three of your priorities? That size that was pretty popular about 10 years ago but lost a lot of its luster when the micro-9s came out? Go with a compact, that larger carry gun/smaller service size gun that is concealable yet still a good size for the range with good capabilities. Then you can also stay with the platforms you're used to. Consider the P320 Compact (or P250 Compact if you'd like the hammer fired version) or the CZ PCR or P01. If you want to go with something different, the Glock 19 seems popular for this role. If you want to go a tad smaller, the true subcompacts that in today's micro-9 age are seen as a little large, the Glock 26, S&W M&P Compact and CZ RAMI would be perfect (and with an extended mag can give a full grip).

With your current pistols, I think HD and Range are covered.
So, I would go with a Walther PPS m2, Glock 26, or FNS compact.

..... but is 5" 1911 with adjustable sights is always good.

Agree with Hi Power although for home defense the OP should consider a 12g shotgun-- my preference BPS. Shuck, shuck !!!

.02 David. :D

CZ p-07 or wait a while for the CZ p-10c

The SA/DA 07 is almost the perfect SD pistol when bought with night sights. It's also a great range time fun gun. While a little large for my CC taste some folks don't mind it's size for that purpose, I'm a shield fan for that purpose.

You have Beretta, SIG, and CZ, how about add an HK, Glock, Springfield, Ruger, or Smith and Wesson

HK VP9
Glock 19
Springfield Armory XDm
I actually don't have a Ruger recommendation.
Smith and Wesson M&P series pistol?

I'd say the VP9, honestly.

Or a Walther PPS if you want a carry pistol. You barely notice it's on your hip it's just that comfortable to carry.

The best pistol to carry, IMHO, is the Glock 19 4th Gen. 16 rounds ready to go, decent trigger out of the box.

Needs some tweaking. First, TruGlo night sights, replace that irritating lined trigger, with a smooth one. Extended slide release, a flush fit butt plug.

This is good to go, for CCW, or IDPA competition.

Reference the "Never change anything crowd?" Are you kidding me, none illuminated plastic sights? Good luck at O Dark thirty, walking the Dog.

I'm not the first guy to notice that your existing collection can cover all those bases. Honestly, any one of those would be alright for average home defense duties. (Is there a reason these don't fit the bill?) For carry, I don't know much about the P320 but it looks like these are all steel-framed and full-sized. Since you like the size, change up the weight and explore some of the polymer-framed options.

I'll second the PX4. It'll be a familiar, hammer-fired DA/SA with a surprisingly good trigger right out of the box. They come with a manual safety but it can be converted to decocker-only and the levers can be replaced with slim, low-profile controls for concealed carry. I'm not alone in noticing how softly they shoot or how comfortably they hold once you've got the right backstrap installed.

I'd also recommend checking out the Walther P99. It's sort of in the middle of what you like and presents an interesting mix of advantages. Essentially, it's a striker-fired DA/SA gun with a decocker. The trigger is excellent in my opinion and has a novel feel. The P99 is full-sized but relatively compact for that category. Combined with well-considered contours and an ergonomic grip, it rides and draws very smoothly.

If you want a "do it all" 9MM that you can carry pretty easily also, get a CZ-75D PCR. It is the Compact, lightweight alloy version of the CZ-75.

Other choices.

Browning Hi Power
CZ P10C
