Those who use moonclips...

...how do you get in that last round? Is there some trick? I can pop in the first ones pretty well, but I cannot get in the last. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not really any tricks, but you do need to make sure you are using good quality clips. I've been very pleased with the ones from www.moonclips.com

My usual way to load my clips is by resting the clip vertically on my bench. Then I push the rounds in using a rolling motion. Pushing against the bench top generally makes loading a pretty easy task.

In the past, I have used a file to open up the gap on some really tight clips, but I've since retired those clips to the parts bin. Quality clips are so available, it's not worth the effort.

One other area to watch is the grove area of the brass. Some brass seems to load easier than others. When I'm not using "range pickups", I buy Star-Line.

Good Luck...

the trick is to roll the cartridge in or out. You can buy a tool to help get the empties out, or just make one from a piece of pipe.

One thing. Keep a couple sets with the empties in them. Use them to practice reloading. I will really help your speed.

I also have had good experiences with Tom at TKCustom www.moonclips.com

I also use Wilson Combat moonclips for my S&W 625 PC.

:)

Has anyone thought about purchasing @100 moonclips and then having them coated with NP3 at Robarguns? It seems like a neat idea to help in loading and unloading cartridges.

I modified a pair of pliers with a drill drilling thru the jawfaces parralel to the handles , and hacksawed a slot in the jaw for the moonclip so it won't bend , it don't bend the rims of the shells . it snaps them right in, just find a cheap pair with a wide gripping face , i was thinking about putting something to cushion the rims but so far no need . pictures when I get a camera .

I have found Wolf ammo to be a bear to load. But it is generally sucky ammo so I stopped using it. Most brass goes in easily.

I use the rolling motion also for stubborn brass and new clips. After a few loadings I can usually pop the rounds in with my fingers.

I always carry one of those california comp demooners and it makes the job simple and quick.

hey sam for declipping I use the tool from Tk customs , I have found that mine are fussy on the cases it likes, federals are the best , but I use alot of pmc for practice , someone said use starline , one question though which primers to use , federals or ccis , don't even talk to me about winchesters please these are a frigin headache .

Moonclips are great. Except when you have to fill them. I use garden gloves and load up about 40 clips at a time. My right hand is sore for hours after that. Sacrifices, sacrifices.
