thompson g2 contender

.30-30

Not a G2. I do have a Contender with two .30-30 barrels (among others). One is a 16" Carbine barrel; the other, my favorite, is a 10" barrel.
It is a fine shooter, loud and accurate. I load 125-130 grain bullets for it.

Used to have a Contender with a 14" .30-30 bbl and another 14" bbl in .30-30 AI (Ackley Improved). Both were fine shooters and of many Contender barrels, they were my favorite to shoot. Recoil isn't bad at all. Now all my Contenders and barrels are gone but if I were to start over with a G-2 then .30-30 would be my first barrel.

Edit: And don't forget, you can load spitzer bullets for much better performance. The .30-30 shines with spitzers. I used to use around 130 gr IIRC.

I just got a G2 Stainless with a 35 Remington barrel, 22LR Match barrel, and Buris 1.5-4 scope. The scope was on the LR barrel, and open sights on the 35. I bought a new Weaver 4X for the 22, and moved the Burris to the 35 Remington.
First range session was last Friday. With less than a box Winchester 35 Rem. 200 gr. ammo I was shooting 1 1/2 groups @ 100 yds.
The Rimfire sighted in at 50 yds was very accurate, but when I tried at 100 yds the groups opened up to 4-6 inches. I'll need to work on that, or just make it a 50 yd 22 tack driving pistol.
You will undoubtedly be amazed, and delighted with your Contender.
The only negative I can say is that they become addictive really fast. You will be searching, and planning on more barrels soon!:D

I have both and they shoot great. A few years back, I took a nice 7-point Alabama buck with the pistol. I do notice that in on the range, it torgues my a bit but you can get use to this. Only thing I can add is that my pistol, is a Super-14.

Be Safe !!!

I bought the G2 in 44 mag, (Hunting regs for my state I can't use one in 30/30.) I also purchased a 17hmr barrel. Love the gun. I have it mounted with a 2-7x and was also looking at red dots. The trigger wasn't the best but it's breaking in the more I shoot. Allot fun. Nice range gun as I don't blast through a ton of rounds with a single shot.

I've got the old Contender ,with a 14" 30-30, have had it for many years and it's a good combo, but I picked up a 35 rem barrel, about 10 years ago and like it so much better I've been thinking of letting the 30-30 go.
