Thompson Contender?????

Darn I hate this itching, but I have an itch for a Thompson Contender. I found one in almost N.I.B condition. It has a .22 LR match barrel and the guy wants 290.00 dollars for it.

Since I have never even held a Thompson Contender, I would like to know if this is a good or fair price.

I feel in love with the little gun and I am a sucker for .22 LR anyway so, I really like it.

As you probably already guessed I want this gun but I am afraid that I dont have the right frame of mind and need any input you can give me.

Thanks

Judge, my .22 TC bull barrel w/ 2x Bushnell is one of the most accurate I've ever shot. True story: I had just mounted the scope, and a buddy of mine was watching the target backer w/ 7x35 binocs as I was sighting in off sandbags at 25 yards. First shot. Buddy: "Way high, little right. Crank 'er down a bunch." Second shot. Buddy: "Better, still a little high. Shoot again." Third shot. Long pause. Buddy:"One more... okay?" Fourth shot. Buddy: "Let's go down there and look." We went to the target line, and it looked to me like I'd missed the paper 2 of 4 times. I was mortified, as Buddy was a nationally ranked Hunter Pistol silhouette shooter. We looked at the target backer, and only there could we tell that the two "misses" (shots 3 and 4)had barely expanded the size of hole #2. Needless to say, I took that target down, and have it today. I'm sure if I'd'a known what kind of group was going on, I'd'a concentrated more, and probably scattered the shots. Never have come close to duplicating that, so I chalked it up as my 15 minutes of fame.

Get it. Scope it. Love it.

only problem with buying a contender is then you start buying other calibers and before you know it you got this little collection going.
fortunately, I realized what was happening and stopped myself.
got a 14" .223 with 3-9 scope and a cute little bipod, 10" .44 mag with 2X scope, and 10" .22LR - all in a hard case.
lots of fun- everybody should have one.

Dealer cost on frames is appox. $200 , barrels run $165. I have a 10" 32/20 barrel that shoots sub 3/4" groups at 100 yds. I embarrassed a lot of rifle shooters with it. My .22 RF barrel only groups about 1" at 100yds. With a little work you can get the trigger down to 4 ozs. I shot these barrels for 12 yrs. in Hunter Pistol with good results - a few 39s but never could get a 40 x 40. Never could get that .270 Wrenn to shoot though.

Yer gonna love that T/C .22!!!

It's been a few years since I bought one, so I'm not sure about the price, but it sounds about right.

Right now I'm looking at an Ace of Spades playing card above my desk. It has a single ragged hole, that was made by 5 shots, offhand, at 25 yards with my T/C .22.

It's the most accurate .22 I've ever shot.

Be forewarned. Those extra barrels have a way of accumulating. Almost as if by magic.

Good Luck...

Joe

Wow, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I've always wanted a T/C (especially a 22LR), but I haven't seen a nice one for under $450 around here!

That sounds like a pretty good deal on that contender. I curently have a contender with the 44 mag. and a 35 rem. barrel. I have it in what they call the hunter package and have been impressed ever since the first shoot. I use the 44 to hunt with here in Ohio for deer. You just can't beat that gun for accuracy.

Believe me, once you have one you'll love it. Buy it and enjoy it.

Sounds like a good price to me. Before I traded it off I had a Contender with 223 barrel with Burris 2-7x scope and a 35 Remington with a Burris 3x scope. Had the rubber Pacymer grips and forend. Great set up. Would not recommend the 35 Remington. Great caliber in a pistol but has a problem since it head spaces on the shoulder of the round. Had the orignal barrel, sent it back TC sent me a new one and still had a problem. It would fire about 50% of the time. Not what you want to hunt deer with. Hunting partner has a 44 mag bored out to accept 410 shells and a 30-30 barrel great for deer.

I wish I had mine back.

Well it is mine, with only another payment or so...

Since the wife has put a TOTAL BAN on new gun purchases. I have to operate in a covert fashion and put them on lay-a-way so as to not notify the wife of the expenditure.

The gun is in perfect shape with 99 percent. The bore is clean and the wood is absolutely amazing. It is the new style what ever that means.

I will let you know when it comes home and I shoot it.

Thanks for the advice. A friend told me if I did not get it, that he would buy it on the spot.

Congradulations on your new gun. When you get a chance you might want to pick up a set of pachmyers for the grip and the forearm. I'm sure you will enjoy it for years to come.

Believe me, I understand the covert action thing.

Judge, it's good that you did get it. You can now avoid your ban by just picking up the barrels. You can (semi) honestly say that you didn't get another gun.

I have a T/C in 410/45LC what a awsome gun!!
Also have a 22mag barrel great for woodchucks. T/c is one great gun with many uses from big to small.
