Hey guys, Cabelas has "Thompson/Center Compass Bolt-Action Rifles" in like most calibers, threaded muzzle, final price $249.99 after rebates and stuff. Looks like it comes with scope bases.... I am tempted because I have wanted a 243 gun for a while... how good are their rifles?

I know 4 who have bought them. their guarantee of 1 moa has so far, delivered.

the exception is ammo. It requires precision ammo

For a budget rifle that will be dragged through the woods, it appears to perform very well so far. I can't say that many rounds have been put thru these rifles but initial impressions are positive. Of those I know of, various calibers have been purchased and all have performed.

I have a Venture in .270 Win .... It is nothing short of amazing. Dialed in a load really easily. It hits well under 1 moa, more like about a half (and I'm not one to tweak loads to endless perfection). Pretty sure the Compass has the same barrel. Really good barrels. I plan to buy another Venture.

Just bought a compass last Tuesday it the Finn feather fur . With tax and after rebate it will cost around 225 . I got a 308 have not scoped it yet though. Not a big fan of the safety but for the price I will deal with it

I had a Venture , that was stupid accurate with the first handload I tried in it 7mm-08 , 130 Gr. Speer BT . I believe the Compass has the same 5-R rifling as the venture .

I had a bushnell trophy scope on my 6.5 Creedmoor that was bad replaced it and sent the other one back for warranty work . I think I wait awhile before I shoot mine

Mine is a fantastically accurate gun, and when you consider the price it is probably the best bargain to be had in the entire gun world right now.

I was surprised the barrel didn’t have that cheap pencil look . For the money I think I will be happy .i just put a Boyd’s on my savage axis and am out if project money for awhile

I have a TC Compass 243. Completely satisfied with the rifle. Great backup or truck gun.
Pros:
Stock length and shape very well suited to medium-smaller shooters.
Trigger is virtually creep free and crisp.
Finish and machining on the metal is very nicely done
Accuracy is 1.1 moa with most loads, and MOA or better with handloads.
Smooth reliable action so far.
Black matte non glare finish.

Cons:
Plastic stock is somewhat soft, hollow.
This is a medium weight 22" rifle, not a lightweight.
Trigger pull weight is somewhat heavy.
Plastic mag catch ( works ok so far)
You can have any color you want as long as it is black.

Sent the trophy scope back to bushnell , they should take care of it then just rings

Just a FYI for people buying to catch the rebate . I did mine online and got it back in a prepaid card in 9 days

Compass rocks

My 308 compass shot Aussie surplus about 1.5 moa, same as my savage heavy barrel, that's pretty impressive if this keeps up I'll have to re-barrel the savage to a different caliber.

I got a slug gun that needs a scope and American predator that needs a bipod . Couldn’t resist the compass though

My T/C Compass .223 is more than I expected.
I fired the first four rounds at 50 yards, and while the group was just barely on the 8 1/2 x 11 target, it measured .552".
After adjusting the no name scope that came in the deal from Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore, the second group measured .306", third group .356, and the fourth group was in the 10 ring and measured .382".
I was not using premium ammo.
I used my first ever hand loaded .223 Remington consisting of:
Once fired Lake City 5.56 cases.
Bulk Hornady 55 gr soft point bullets
H4895 powder
CCI 400 primers

Not bad for the first outing with the Compass.
