This is not the same country

I am reminded of the answer a prospective juror said when asked if he was married. He replied, "Yes, I've been married for forty years." The attorney replied, "You have been married to the same woman for forty years?" The juror responded, "She ain't the same."

Sad to say it. But this is not the same country I fought for when I served in the military. Neither is it the country I grew-up in. It has changed and while change is inevitable I don't think it is changing for the better. Whenever people say this is a free country I ask them. "Tell, me how many things can you do without any governmental regulation whatsoever? Name three."

I would submit that we are the most regulated country in the world. In the city where I live one must obtain a permit for just about everything. If you want to replace the steps on your mobile home, get a permit. If you want to cut a tree on your own property, get a permit. It has reached the point that I'm not sure what it means when someone says "This is a free country"?

Don't get me wrong I love this country but my love is not what it used to be. You don't hear much about patriotism anymore unless you go to a veterans day celebration.

"Patriotism" said, President Teddy Roosevelt ,"means to stand by the country." Many seem to think it means to "stand by the president."

Of all those in the U.S. Congress I have more respect for Senator Jessie Helms than any other. For one, you know where he stands and second, he stand firm for what he believes, and third he has the strong morals and character this country needs.

THIS IS NOT THE SAME COUNTRY

One of my Grandfathers saw the Civil war and all subsequent wars untill he died durin WWII. He often would tell my father and me that the country had gone to hell in a handbasket during his lifetime. His uncle was commandant of Ft Sumpter when the war for states and individual rights began and that uncle felt that both sides lost to socialism.

My father was a combatant in WWI, Panama, WWII, Korea and a few other "insignificant" actions. He told me and my sons many times that the country had gone to hell in a handbasket in his lifetime.

I didn't see combat in Korea but participated in several counter insurgency operations and one "war". I have told my sons and my daughter that the country has gone to hell in a handbasket in my lifetime, and is still decending.

May God grant that my grandchildren have the chance to live in a Constitutional Republic with less government and more responsibility.

My family tree seems to be self pruning. So many from that tree have fallen early in Scotland, multiple African countries, Europe, Asia etc etc. Few were drafted, most went because they felt the need to bear arms for freedom and thought their cause was just.

In my three on the line combat tours I felt that I was invincible because the cause was just. My handle (C.R.)was administered to me by a two star and probably earned. Crazy n Reckless Sam.

Yes, this is not the same country....so sad.

Nikita Khrushchev predicted confidently in a speech in Bucharest, Rumania on June 19, 1962 that: " The United States will eventually fly the Communist Red Flag...the American people will hoist it themselves."
