That's way cool,,,
But my Pop has been doing that for years.

He had a real problem with wasps on his back porch,,,
I bought one of those $9.95 Chinese pellet pistols at a gun show.

Break the barrel open to cock it,,,
Use an empty .22 short shell as a salt dipper,,,
Pour the salt down the barrel and disintegrate the wasps in flight.

But even if I would have had the thought to develop a salt-shooter,,,
I doubt very seriously if I would have followed through on it,,,
I simply don't have the necessary knowledge to do so.

Kudos to the gentleman and his idea,,,
If they ever hit the market,,,
I'll buy one for myself,,,
Maybe two. :)

Hello Salmoneye,,,

Love to see how yours works, Aarond...

It worked great out to about 6-8 feet,,,
That's the distance across my Pops porch.

It also helped to point the barrel straight up,,,
Then slap the side of the barrel to "tamp" the salt charge.

I loaded it the first time and Pop snorted in derision,,,
Then I disintegrated a wasp in mid air,,,
He said, "Gimme that thing."

I never got it back.

Did a search, says they're shipping in September, $30 includes shipping ... I'm getting one, way more fun than a swatter ... does using it count as spilling salt; do you have to throw some over your shoulder each time a fly bites it?

You'll probably have to register it if you live in New Jersey. It will also probably be illegal in California and Chicago

We used to do that with air guns with no pellet loaded. Just give it about 3 pumps. Just vaporize the little boogers with air. And yes I know that is not good for the gun but we were young and dumb. You did have to get really close.

We'd use a piece of rolled up paper in a BB gun. Those little strips left over after you tear out a page of a notebook were the right width, and you'd get 20-25 shots per strip.

QUESTION: In a nearly worthless, very old, single pump, single shot pellet gun, would a fine sand work? I would certainly expect bore wear/damage, but I am not concerned about the value (or, more accurately, the lack of value) of the pellet gun.

Would fine sand work?

Only one way to find out,,,
I doubt there would be enough pressure to cause anything catastrophic.

But then again,,,
This could be a "Hold my beer!" moment.

Morton's table salt is cheap and plentiful,,,
Evenly sized square granules,,,
Perfect biodegradable shot.
