This is a must have...

Looks like an interesting device. This is certainly a single shot type scenario for emergencies only. I can see something like this in an emergency kit (where else would you put a flare gun). If you were out in the sticks and you needed something to take small game, it would probably be ideal. I certainly hope it would never have to be used in a self-defense scenario... I would probably stick with the flare rather than count on a single shot of .22 LR. It might be cool if they could make it in .22 Mag or even a center fire pistol round.

I could see a .45 long colt or .410 as a defensive cartridge. The single shot nature of the gun is still a concern, but I guess it is better than clubbing an attacker with a flare gun! I would hope to have a real gun with a bit more fire power in any place I might have a flare gun. National parks now allow concealed carry, but I know firearm laws get pretty dicey on international waters. I certainly would not want to fend off any pirates with a single shot weapon!

I understood there were no laws prohibiting armed private vessels on international waters?
(Perhaps a bit off topic, but considering it's a flare gun conversion...)

If you just stay at sea, maybe you are ok - but many ports and countries will bust you harshly with a weapon.

And if you think you are going to fight off pirates with a 22 - good luck.

Also, the legality sounds really funny to me.
