This Has Been Going On for a Long Time!

Hard Ball

Recently I have been doing some reserach on the introduction of gunpowder weapos and their impact on warfare at the time. I discovered that the first true pistols, specimens of which survive in nuesems, were made in about 1535. Written references to the use of these wheelock pistols occurs in the early 1540's. Looks like us handgunners have been around for a long time!

Maybe not. Around 1500 there was a French general, the Chevalier Bayard, who used to hang any Spanish or Italian prisoner whose equipment showed that he had carried firearms.

i heard that the Chevalier Bayard got taken out by a barrage from a revenging squad of musketeers.

Beretta has been in business since 1526. Started out making cannon barrels. Have been family owned and operated ever since, with no breaks in operation either.
