This explains a lot (San Francisco mayor seeks help for alcohol use)

This guy is using the new "devil made me do it" excuse i.e. Alcoholism. Lots of folks been using that lately. He recently admitted to cheating on his wife with his campaign managers wife.

It's aggravating to me as well. That Mrs. USA or whomever she was used the same excuse.

You can't cheat on your wife and blame alcohol. Well, you can, but you are really copping out by blaming something other than yourself. Same way that lots of people blame guns for bad people doing bad things.

Alcohol is no joke. I know. It's not something to be used to make yourself "not look as bad" as if you didn't abuse it. It's a serious problem and I hate to see it being used as a cop out. It's a bad habit, and a hard one to break... it's not something you jump in front of a camera to use as an excuse for bad behavior. There are usually a bunch of warning signs. It's kind of hard to miss, actually. I guess it's easier to miss if you get caught red-handed. Either way, I'm not convinced. Of course, that's one sign of addiction, who knows. He has bigger problems than gun-control at this point I guess. I hope he figures it out before his entire family suffers.

it's the latest cause celeb. an actor on Grey's Anatomy refered to another as a 'faggot' and got a media circus going- the actor promptly appologises and checks into rehab- Jay Leno summed it up best "How do you go to rehab for homophobia?" followed a few nigths later by reporting he, the rehabee, was doing better and now could watch 3 hours of Bravo a day. But the bottom line is right- a public figure screws up- they at once check into rehab.

It's like they think this will make them unavailable for media abuse. "You can't pick on me, I've admitted a problem. go pick on someone else."

In baby steps.. If he finds sobriety rewarding, he might go wild and experimental with other things he also shunned thus far. Responsible firearm ownership should closely follow integrity on that list.

Samoand,
I, again, see where you're coming from. Believe me, I hope so. We need all the politicians we can to be on our side. But the probability is REALLY low. I mean, we're talking San Fransisco here. THE MOST anti-gun city there is. If he changes his stance, he'll be out of office faster than Kerry flip-flops his viewpoints. :D
