Now they can play on everyone's fears and watch their membership rise again (it's been on the decline). Oh and did I mention their contributions will skyrocket. There's no way to approach this without being labeled by some as being "anti NRA" but it's a legitimate reality in politics.

I would hope that men would take the $$ they now plan to send to the NRA out of fear, and will fight hardcore with it THEMSELVES:

1. Get your FFL now. We need to triple the #s of FFLs and/or at least get them back before the U.S. government waged terrorism upon them and scared most out of business. We need more niche FFLs instead of every gunshop trying to be all things to all people. We need a network of FFLs who will do free transfers. It's obscene to pay to just do a transfer. Our rights were stolen by the 1968 gun control act (which the NRA didn't consider to be an anti gun vote) and now were not allowed to "receive" firearms (the principle act of supporting the second amendment).

2. Go buy a .50 BMG. I believe they will be an NFA item within the next four years if we don't quadruple the "population" of them in private hands. Vulcan's seem to be the most affordable.

My action plans:

1. Saving for a .50BMG, hoping to buy by next Fall. They ARE over $2000 for a reputable one after all...

2. Joining NRA and GOA. Already done with NRA, will do GOA in December. They at least lobby down in Washington, something that I do not do. Wish I could, but until then my $35 will have to do it for me.

3. I might consider a C&R license. To get a full-blown FFL, you have to nowadays have a storefront. I don't have a business address separate from my home address, so I probably won't get the full-blown FFL.

4. Strongly considering a suppressor for my 9mm handgun.

Thankfully, that's not accurate. You can use your house or a section of your house if you're willing to tolerate agent Smith coming in once a year (usually less often) to inspect your books and inventory. If you do transfers for people then that is enough to successfully get a license. You can then work gun shows or not if you want, or internet sales, or just transfers. Paying wholesale for cool stuff will pay for the FFL.

"Now they can play on everyone's fears and watch their membership rise again"

And why shouldn't they? Now that the nation has seen a full-blown "assault weapon" ban come and go, they know exactly what the gun-grabbers can do when they set their minds to it. Don't think for a minute that the true gun-haters like Feinstein, Schumer, Kennnedy, Boxer and Kerry will miss an opportunity like this.

You think it's any different for any "purpose" organization?

Fears have a funny way of (cough, Brady Act) turning into (cough, Assault Weapons Ban) reality...

And why shouldn't they?
I'm just sick of the WAY we get played. NRA pushes for donations then turns around and gives it to the campaigns of crooked politicians who then LOSE on election day because of other factors. I'm just saying you can get MORE done yourself than by depending on these "lobbies" to do it for you. When the NRA endorsed bush AFTER he had signed the so called "patriot" act, that was it. They'll never see another dime from me. Furthermore, if NRA really meant the "Vote Freedom First" slogan, they would have reminded South Dakota and Nevada members that the pro freedom marijuana initiatives needed to pass if we ever expect government to stay of OUR backs. When government wages war on you, it doesn't matter whether it's an unapproved plant or an unapproved pistol. The force from the jack booted thugs is the same.

I think NRA has a vested interest in NOT defeating or beating back government aggression, that they NEED tyranny in order to exist, and that we can do a better job of regaining our freedom ourselves. I think if we're not willing to do it ourselves, all the checks to the NRA won't change anything.

For anyone doubting the NRA’s power on our behalf:

Note in particular this quote from Feinstein (speaking of the NRA):

Quote:
"I'm a bit numb ... They had the power to turn around at least 60 votes in the Senate. That's amazing to me."
- Senator Feinstein as quoted in the NY Times 3/3/04

Since then, the gun-liability bill has been passed without the AWB renewal provision.

Let us know how you're doing a better job yourself.

"I think NRA has a vested interest in NOT defeating or beating back government aggression, that they NEED tyranny in order to exist..."

You really have no clue what NRA is, do you?

Do you really think that NRA is only a lobbying organization, and has no other functions in the firearms world?

"and that we can do a better job of regaining our freedom ourselves."

Oh ouch, laughing that hard on a full stomach hurts.

Tell us, how many national elections have you influenced personally?

How many laws have you either personally crafted and pushed through congress, or defeated by yourself?

This isn't going to come down to a call for us to pick up our guns and march on Washington to "take direct action," is it?

Oh Gee....another NRA bashing thread
It pretty much parallels the cop-bashing threads. Start one, and almost immediately, three or four more pop into existance... sigh...

Wait for it! Another mod may come by and close this, before I get tired of it and do the dirty deed...

Nah.

The only purpose I can see to this thread is solely to bash the NRA. Closed for being off topic.
