This ain't quite right......

A buddy decided that he had to have a new toy and gave me a super price on a M64 with a 2 inch barrel. I like 3 inch barreled K frames fine. The price was such that I purchased the gun. My initial thought was that I'd use it as a loaner for classes or a tackle box gun or, heck, just resell it.

Put some Uncle Mike's Boot Gripss on it, popped the sideplate and smoothed things up. Went to the range with some 158 LSWC reloads and played around.............

It shoots a whole lot better than it's supposed to shoot.

I've owned a few J frames and D frame colts, but always figured the 2 inch K frames to be neither fish nor foul. I wuz wrong!

Anybody else have a cherished assumption ever come back and bite'em? Mine usually don't turn out this nice.... :D

Yeah. I was convinced by many TFLers and others that the sights on a Kel-Tec P-32 are useless. Then I got one, cleaned it, lubed it, and headed for the range. At 50 feet, I was able to consistently plug the target 'between the eyes," which happened to be where I was aiming. :D

I've learned before that manufacturers generally have good reasons for doing what they do and avoiding useless expenses in making their products. Thing is, I don't always seem to remember that when "opinion" roils against it.... :)

It's always amazed me how many fans the 2 inchers have because it just seems so unlikely they could come close to being accurate. Thanks for your report.

Oh yeah. That S&W wouldn't knuckle under to the anti-gunners and become the enemy.

The new ownership had nothing to do with making the agreement. But I suppose it is their cross to bear. That and getting the consistency of their quality back to where it was.

It was an uphill battle. There is still a ways to go, but I think by supporting the new regime, we give them a decent chance.

At least SOME forumites can see past their politics enough to buy new Smiths, and help them recover.

The current owners are NOT the enemy.

I find two inchers just as easy to hit with as longer barrels, as long as the grips fit my hand.

Mike........ Yep. Agree completely. Luckily this is a pre-agreement.

Sam, in my case it's a gun that shoots much better than the shooter.................

Roger, that is not my experiance, but make room for me on your bandwagon, the grips seem to be very important.

One question, Giz...

What do you mean that it "shoots a whole lot better than it's supposed to"?

Care to elaborate?

Or do you mean, "I can shoot it a whole lot better than I'm supposed to be able to." :D

Mike, I rarely shoot for "real" practice much past 20 yards. I have an idea of what a given handgun should do group wise and usually shoot our plate machine at high speed. This 2 inch barreled K frame was considerably eaiser to hit with than my J frame. It was not far off my standards for a 3 or 4 inch barreled gun.

I also like to shoot off hand at our 100 yard range with new hand guns. I've found that poor accuracy at that distance sshows up very quickly. This one shot well.
