Thinner grips for Sig P226

I recently acquired an older model Sig P226. Very nice gun, except the Pachmayr grips that came with it are a little too thick for my liking and make it difficult to operate the magazine release. Anyone know if there are some thinner grips out there (maybe with a straighter backstop, too?) Thanks.

Yes, you can buy the original grips that come with the P226. The Pachmyr grips are very wide, even wider than the Hogue rubber grips. The thing that makes the Pachmyr grips wide is the 3rd backstrap piece.

IIRC, I had a chance to hold a P226 with the factory wood grips on them. They seemed a bit wider, but it was many years ago. Then factory plastic ones were the slimmest and most comfortable that I have tried. I do, however, have Hogues on my shooter P226 mainly for the more traction and cushion. Noticably wider than the stock stocks. I just wish it were as slim as the OE plastic ones.

the pach's are definately the thickest unless you count wooden grips which vary depending on the wood/maker. the hogue grips are a bit thinner and actually feel pretty good. the factory plastic stocks are thinner with the 2nd generation being thinner than the 1st (stippled vs checkered)

i don't know of anyone who makes a set of stocks with a straighter back strap (i'm assuming that is what you meant, most backstops are pretty wide ;D ), the shape is pretty much dictated by the hammer strut (?) and mainspring running down the back
