Thinking of dressing up my M1944

I have an M1944 Carbine, Hungarian manufacture (1953 vintage), that I bought for $80. It has a little rust on the outside of the barrel, but it shoots well, especially given how little I paid for it.

The stock is kind of rotten, though. It's still solid, but it's dinged up, and for some reason a big letter A was painted in white on it.

There is only one synthetic stock replacement available for the M1944, from Advanced Technology. I don't know if it comes with an upper handguard or not (it'd be dumb if it didn't).

I'm also thinking of getting the scope mount, and putting a cheapo 4x scope on there, sort of making poor man's sporting rifle.

Has anybody tried the stock I'm talking about? Can somebody post a picture of a Nagant '44 in the configuation I'm talking about.

Thanks.

I'd like to do a good, side mount, scope and rubber buttplate on my M44, but otherwise leave it alone.

Although I have no experience with Advanced Technologies' M44 stock, their AK stock set I purchased some time ago was pretty piss poor. I'd go with a standard replacement, then modify it for your use.

Hungarian M44

Hi,

I bought a Hungarian M44 Carbine from Century Arms about 4 months ago and i paid $55.00 with shipping. The gun is awesome 90-95% blue, sharp and shiny bore, No Rust and the wood is excellent, the gun looks new. I would contact a gentlemen by the name of Dennis Kroh for the information on the scope mount, He has used the M44 for deer hunting for many years and it is his favorite of all time. His website is http://www.empirearms.com and he has all the info as far as what to get on the scope mount and which scope to use. The M44 is a nice rifle that will give you many years of service. Take care of it and make sure to properly clean the bore after shooting the Corrosive ammunition, Make your self a 50/50 solution of ammonia and water, Get a empty spray bottle and then pour the 50/50 ammonia and water solution in the bottle and when you are done shooting at the range, squirt some on a patch and run it once through the bore, and again another wet patch, then dry with two patch and then clean like normal.

Good Luck with your Future Endeavors and God speed!!
