Thinking of an SAR-1

I know someone who will let me shoot the gun before I buy it to see if the gas block/ sight is alright or if it has trigger slap, IF the gun seems to lack these common flaws, and it shoots well, is there anything that any other AK rifle, such as the expensive Krebs guns have over the Romanian models?

My .02 on your question: If all checks out, then no, the others don't have anything practical over the Romanians. The others(Chinese, Bulgarian, Hungarian, etc) have much better finish and generally superior fit. However, if you are just looking for a good starter AK, then I highly recommend a Romanian. Besides, once you are hooked, then you can look to "upgrade" as your collection expands.

I've fired about 5 different SARs and all were very good examples of what the AK is all about.
Don't fear the SAR unless your at the small end.
