Thinking of a 1911...but!

I am thinking of a reasonably priced 1911. Compact or Ultra Compact. Something along the lines of a Rock Island or Daly.
I dont have 600$ to drop on a handgun. There are some nice
guns out there for reasonable amounts of money. What experience to you have with the more reasonably priced 1911's?
Also where is the best DIST. to get one? (serious ?)

When I get one..will I start to get weird opinions? Will I start to tell stories about going to school up hill in the snow both ways...about having to open the can of pork & beans with my teeth. (kidding!)

Shoot well

OK, this is comiong from a guy who owns and shoots 2 Charles Daly 1911s.

I got the FS version about 2 years ago. Had some initial problems with the magazines. No big deal. Had some problems with the disconnect, sent it back to KBI, 2 times, they couldn't fix it. Sent it to Kurt Wickmann, has worked ever since. Right around 1000rnds w/ no failures. My buddy has a Kimber custom, shoots as good as his, trigger is almost as good as his Kimbers after the trigger job.

More recently, purchased a Charles Daly ECS. About 500 rounds through it, with only a bad magazine to account for the problems I had. It is as accurate as my FS, a real pleasure to shoot, and the trigger is as good as my buddies Kimber.

All these Daly's were new when bought, paid $350 for each one.

If you go with a Daly, I lost faith in the gunsmiths that work at KBI. You might want to find a good local smith in case they don't fix it right just in case.

Other than the service, I love the pistols.

If you shoose not to go with the Daly, then consider the Systema Colt. I know that CDNNInvestments is advertising them now for $299.

Hope this helps.

If you don't want to drop a lot of $$$ on your first 1911, buying a Colt Sistema is a good option. I figured that was a good, safe way to enter the 1911 world--Glocks have been my semi-atuo preference--without over-committing. (By the way, I really like the Sistema.)
