Thinking about HK P30s... or g19?

Hi guys... so a couple of months ago everybody helped me to choose my first gun. I ended buying the Beretta 92 compact Inox. Great gun, enjoy it a lot... a little heavy to carry though... I have been looking for something lighter.

As a reminder... glocks are usually $2000 in here :-(

So now a gunshop have some specials... HK P30 have been $3100 but know they have p30s model on special for $2000... and glocks 19 gen 3 USA with 4 magazines for $1354... The P30 has all the features I like: paddle release, hammer fired, and a manual safety... plus it is beautiful.

My only concern is that HKs are not that common in here so parts are not as readily available... should it be a concern?

What do you think of the P30? What about P30 vs glock 19? It is hard for me to think about buying a glock because... I know they are not for modeling but I find them... boring considering the mount of money I have to pay here. A beautiful SR1911 costs $1225!!

To be honest...as a newbie in the firearms world I a little scared of strike fired guns...

WOW those are some steep prices, I have to ask where do you live?

Anyway both are competent weapons that will last and serve you well the major differences are the P30s decocker and safety lever. If you are properly trained both are safe to handle and carry. Striker fired weapons always have the same trigger feel and a good reset and that is an advantage. The hammer P30 has the ability to fire a round that did not go off again but with good ammo today that is pretty unlikely. Glock 19's are the most common every day carry weapon probably in the world and many military organizations carry them as well. I would not worry about parts too much as both weapons will run pretty much problem free and the only thing that you will need is the occasional spring set after many thousands of rounds. If you are looking to upgrade (really uneeded) the Glock will have more available options. The difference in price is a factor as well as esthics, you have to like and feel comfortable with the pistol

I like the P-30 and I carry one myself sometimes. Mine is a V3 DA/SA with decocker and no safety. It's ergonomics are far superior and it's fully ambidextrous. I like the longer grip length on the P-30 while the G-19's is too cramped for my hands. Accuracy is also very good on my P-30 and the others I have shot. Break down is just a little slower/harder than a Glock. Magazines will cost more for the the HK and does not have near the aftermarket support as the G-19. Quality goes to the HK all day long but, they cost more as well.

Striker fired guns are the hottest selling handguns on the market and are incredibly accurate, reliable and there incredibly simple fire control system makes them easy to work on. While I agree the H&K is a nicer looking piece, the G19 is infinitely more practical in a place where parts and product support are unreliable.

I have the P30 V1 LEM, P30SK V1 LEM and the P30SK V3, along with the Glock 19.

I love them all and you can't go wrong with any of them. It comes down to whichever you like best.

My personal opinion, everyone should have a Glock 19 in their stable.

However, with that great sale price on the HK right now, you might want to go ahead and grab it knowing you can always pick up the Glock 19 down the road.

P30 for $2000 on special.
Glock 19 gen3 4 mags for $1354.

H&K not too common around your area but plenty of Glocks.

Grab the Glock 19.

I found this Article on the web a few years ago that might help you with your decision:

HK P30 Torture Test. (I Sure wouldn't want to do what this guy did to his gun!)

"From 1-May-09 to 19-Mar-10 — 322 days — the pistol fired 91,322 rounds.

Of those 322, it spent 130 days at the range, averaging over 700 rounds per trip.

It spent 512 hours at the range, averaging almost 180 rounds per hour. By the way, 512 hours is more than three weeks at twenty four hours per day, seven days a week.

That rnd/hr number is a bit skewed, though, because it includes many hours on the range teaching. When you look at just my personal practice routines, the gun was regularly firing 350-550 rounds per hour".

FWIW, I own a P30L in 9mm and have been very happy with it. I ended up doing a spring kit modification to in and SA/DA are significantly lighter with NO mis-fires.

Speaking as an owner of both, they are both terrific pistols. If concealed carry is an option that gives the Glock 19 an edge. HKs are extremely durable and unlikely you would need any parts until at least 10,000 rounds fired. The TRS (trigger return spring) is the part that will most likely be needed by either some day. If you can get basic parts such as that for either you should be OK.

What my friend redhologram said!

I'd go for the P30 in a heartbeat. I have a Glock 19. It's a good, generic, pistol that goes *bang* the same way any other gun goes *bang*. Not better, not worse.

Also, don't worry too much about the whole part availability. HK Part dot net is always here to help. Not to mention, the high cost goes somewhere.

Example: Glock recoil springs need to be changed every 5,000 rounds (pushing it) while HK recoil springs can last up to 25,000 rounds before needing a changing.

If I remember correctly Bacha is in Guatemala. Not sure about the ITAR restrictions for HKparts shipping there. I imagine after what happened to Adam Webber that they might want to stay avoid any potential problems.

To start off I love my G19 but if you want a hammer fired poly 9mm I would look at an FN FNX-9. They are great guns, I have the 45 version and cant say enough good things about them. I will pick up a used model if I ever find one, with 17 rounds on tap and 3 mags you are good to go.

I've owned both and recommend a Walther PPQ or P99AS if available.

I found the P30L was excellent, but the Walther was superior in all regards: slimmer, less expensive, shortest Single Action reset on the market, comparable metal treatment, prefer the P99 decocker that is streamlined to the slide, grip texture wears fast on the P30 and is rather sharp to start with...

I have a V3 P30 and a Gen3 G-19, and I'm 100% in agreement with "...everyone should have a Glock 19...", absolutely one of the most useful & versatile pistols that I own.

The P30 will shoot circles around the 19, not much of a comparison. Both are tops for reliability but the trigger pulls couldn't be any different. There is a good chance the P30 will fit your much, much better as well. I do agree everyone should own a Glock 19 though.

Thanks everybody... great insight. Yes, I am in guatemala... That is a problem in so many ways... hahahaha

I cant order most parts online, And even the ones I can are a risk. It only takes one LEO to not know the law to get me into trouble.

Hey TunnelRat... what happened to Adam Webber ?

I've owned the HK p30s and the p30sk (along with 8 other HK's). My preference, in the model type you're considering, is the p30sk. However, considering the sale price on the p30s I'd go that way in a heartbeat. IMO HK's are made like tanks, really sturdy and function like a fine watch.

Can't offer an opinion on a Glock. They have never appealed to me. Haven't even shot one. But, my local firing range has several for rent. I'll have to try one to see what they're like. Obviously, they do the job. Glock must have sold at least a million.

Went to the store for the HK... I have to drive 4 hours to get to that store... they ran out of P30s

They have the .45 model... I checked the glocks... for some reason I can't get past the fact that I have to pay 3 to 4 times as much as what they cost, and maybe Its the fact that haven't used striker fired guns enough... I couldn't settle to the G19... So... we´ll see

The Glock 19 is arguably the best all around Gun you can get for the dollar.

And I am a DA/SA HK guy at heart.

There is just so much right with the Glock 19 that it is almost worth ignoring what is wrong. If you can only have 1 gun the G19 is hard to beat.

Again says I who has transitioned back to DA/SA and more specificallY HKs.
