Thinking about buying Colt .25 1908...Question?

A local gun shop has a Nickel 1908 Colt .25 in near perfect condition with mother of pearl grips. Since the original grips are missing, is the value of the gun decreased? Also, can this gun fire modern ammo reliably?
Thanks,
Mike

I have a Colt 1908 Vest Pocket Auto. Nice pistol, though for the same size I prefer the Astra Firecat. The pistol is plenty sturdy enough to fire modern ammo, I would replace the recoil spring since it is so old. If there is wear on the gun and replacement grips it has lost its' collectors value, but people trying to sell it will still want a premium and claim that it is a collectors piece.

Colt put factory pearl grips on some of those. If they have the Colt medallion, and are real pearl (not plastic), they are probably original. A factory nickel gun with factory pearl grips in 100% will go up into the $750 range.

As a gun, the Colt 1908 is a very rugged, very reliable little gun, IMHO the best .25 Auto ever made, not excepting its FN "twin".

I have a Colt vest pocket, Still carry it when the need arises. They are great little guns. It fires anything I give it. If the price is right I'd go for it :)
