Thinking about a 9mm.....

Honestly, I shouldn't be thinking about another carry type gun, but I just retired a few and see a small gap in my line up.

My line up is basically a DW CCO in 45 auto that does 75% of the duty. I also have a Kahr CW380 that takes up the slack. Both are great guns.

Ideally, I would have a 9mm, SAO or SA/DA, 3.5-4" barrel, 7-14 rnd mag, compact grip, 16-26 oz weight, good sights and excellent handling. Basically a KAHR P9 double stack with 1911 controls and SA trigger.

The only things close I see are the Glock 19, Kahr P9 and CZ P-01 omega. What am I missing?

Really depends on what you want exactly... Size wise and the like.

There are some 1911 style 9mm out there that are designed to be on the small side. Options from Springfield, Kimber... Sig has some models with a similar pattern. Sig also offers some smaller DA/SA models in a similar size. I think the 225 fits the bill, but I am not directly familiar with that model.

Then you have "compact" size pistols like the G19 and others of similar size.

There are some nice single stacks like the S&W Shield, a bit between the compact and subcompact size (closer to sub) designed for lightweight easy carry, but still offering decent round count.

Does that mean you want a thumb activated safety? I'm not huge on safeties, but a know a variant of the Shield has a safety. I really like the Shield as a carry gun. Also the other M&P series guns can be had with safeties. H&K and Sig put safeties on some of their guns as well.

You mentioned the P01 Omega. That's a fantastic choice. I'm a HUGE CZ fan, and the P01 is my fav.

I carry every day. I carry appendix under a polo. Here are my suggestions based upon what works for me at 5'7" and 185 lbs.

Glock 19 Gen 3 or 4
Glock 17 Gen 4 only
CZ P-07 Gen 2
HK VP9
S&W M&P9
Springfield Armory XD9
Sig M-11

The Sig P320 compact grip is too small for my hand. I do not care for the thin plastic in the grip section on Sigs.

We are in Jihad. I no longer carry any pistol that does not have high capacity mags.

The Gen 4 Glock 17 conceals amazingly well.

The M&P9 gives you 17 plus one rounds in a package almost as small as the Glock 19.

In reading your requirements, the CZ P-07 jumped out to me. I may be biased because I own one, mind you, but it seems to be the best fit for what you listed. It is a bit wider than I'd prefer, but that's really my biggest complaint and it's not even that bad.

Bias here, but either the CZ P-07 or P-01. Both practically identical in size/dimensions as the Glock 19 albeit with a slightly thicker/wider slide but a thinner/narrower grip, and for some shooters, much better ergonomics. You can also convert the P-07 and newer-release P-01 Omega from a decock lever to a thumb safety model as well, if you prefer cocked 'n locked carry.

Nothing wrong with Glocks (I've a 17, 19, and 26), but my comparative P-09, P-07, and RAMI will always be my first choices. Again, I did say I'm biased!

What is wrong with this option....?? It seems to meet all of your specs...and best of all its a 1911 ( and a Wilson Combat 1911 )...

Wilson has a number of other compact guns as well...

( my primary carry gun is a Wilson Combat Protector model, 5", all stainless, in 9mm ( 10 + 1 in 9mm)...). Wilson, in my view, makes great guns.

Springfield EMP may be something to consider. Nice soft shooter and very accurate. Think they have a new version with a longer barrel.

Of the guns you mentioned, the CZ P01 Omega is the only one that is single action (or at least can be, in safety mode). The Glock and Kahr are striker fired, which shoot like light double action. Look at 1911s for true single action.

Thanks for the responses. To clarify, I would strongly prefer SA and thumb safety.

It just meets your round capacity requirement with the extended mag and the barrel is only 3 inches but I would suggest looking at a Sig P938. Great sights, nice to shoot and carries very well.
My brother has one and I really enjoy it. I am about to pick up one for my girlfriend because my LGS employee couldn't keep his lips zipped when she was with me as we were looking at cheaper offerings...lol

I thought about the Sig, too, since my wife and I each have a P238. It doesn't meet OP's criteria for barrel length or magazine capacity, but we love the .380 version and you hardly ever hear anything bad about the 9 mm model.
