These are not the Pythons your looking for

I found some surplus Python barrels for $40 last year.
The only catch is.... they have rust.

I found a Python this week.
The only catch is.... some Nickel plating is failing.
And it has a V906?? serial number from 1978.

What does it all mean?
If I am cheapskate, all I can get is scraps from the Python world.

Python is a good gun and all but $1350? At that price for an old beater there are a bunch of other things I'd rather have.

Colts are cool and all, but I'm not Python rich. I wanted an adjustable sight DA Colt, and after about 6 months, my gun store guy found this for me

It's a nickel plated .38 colt trooper with chips in the finish and some kind of case or department number scratched into the bottom of the grip strap. For a few hundred bucks it was within my budget, and in line with the rest of my collection.

$1,400 is way too much money for a beat-up Colt Python. You will probably immediately beset with buyer's remorse and you will want to have the gun worked over to improve its appearance. This work will be expensive and any work done will actually decrease the value of the gun. By the time you're done, you will have over $2,000 into a gun that is not worth that much.

You might as well save up and be patient and troll the gun sale sites and gun shows. With patience and a bit of luck, you can buy a really decent Python for less than $2,000 and you will actually be happy with it and eventually the cost won't matter if you enjoy owning the gun.

This thread reminds me why I am glad I picked up a python years ago. I think I bought mine for around $300 around 2000 and it had a terrible trigger. One trip to a good smith and for another $150 I had a spectacular shooting machine.

Yes Teddy did the work. Exceptional. The man is a true master of the Python. He turned my gritty rough piece of junk Python into pure gold. This is why I got it cheap.

I have less than 500$ into my Python including tax and it is a precision target shooter. My second one has not been touched and it is no where near as nice.

I am not sure if Teddy is still doing jobs though.

I remember when a really good Python could be found for about $500

And I remember when, not only were cigarettes 25 cents a pack, but smoking was good for you. But that's not really germaine to the discussion, is it? ("The gall darned germans got nothin' to do with it, boy!")

BTW, I got my first NIB Python for $300 at Davis Guns, Louisville, KY.
