There's something about wood..

When a hunting rifle of "wood and blue" goes for some 30 years without any problems, I have a bit of difficulty finding cause to go to stainless and plastic.

(I'm omitting such needs as folks like Keith Rogan have up in the "Alaskan Rain Swamps".)

ATTICUS,

I agree. There's nothing like pretty wood and gun metal blue. It amazes me how all the deer, moose, geese etc. etc. have been shot over the years using a wood stocked long gun? I

Last year I got $40.00 off a new Benelli SBE because is was stocked in wood and blued the dealer wasn't selling it since it wasn't camo.

One thing don't call your guns pretty as I flamed over that last year.

A LOT of shooters have an inheret...

urge to screw around with a system that works:rolleyes:
The wave of stainless and laminates and 'composits' are there on the market because they sell, not because they are any better than the old wood and blued steel combo. All the bells & whistles of various sorts in the shooting sports are being shamelessly flogged by hired hacks, in the gunrags and the sporting mags.

I, being a stuffy old fart who is hard to swindle...anymore, look on these gadgets as another ruse to seperate me from my cash for some gadget or concept I really don't need...to surmount a contrived situation cooked up by some marketing genius. to sell his product. Ex: my cure for stock warpage isn't to buy a fiberglass laminate lightweight waterproof wonderstock to replace my 'oldfashoned' walnut stock...it's to not be out shooting in a driving rainstorm!:) No wet stock= no warpage. Same thing for blued steel. :D

Rave over... I feel much better now ;)

I have made and fit many a stock, (wood) in my day, and y'all are correct. Wood can be fit to a person, or a gun or both. Composites are durable, but (opinion) must include stock fit to achieve surgical accuracy of any rifle. Composites don't normally fit that way. Just think if the stock were custom fit composites could be more accurate.

I love beauty, that;s why I married my wife, the same with my rifles, I love beauty and wood does that..
