Theoretical question

I love the reliablity of a revolver. I've been looking at smaller, more concealable guns lately and feel like there is alot missing in the revolver choices.
In semi-auto you can choose anything from .22 to 25 to 32 to 380 to 9x18 to 9mm. And with milsurp, lots of those choices are under $200. In revolvers you go from 22 to 38spl., and if it's small, it's only a 5 shot. Do you think there would be a market for a round that could be used in a small revolver, that would still give us at least 6 shots, maybe 7 or 8, but still be concealable? Maybe not Kel-tec small, but at least smaller? The 32H&R mag would seem to be a step in that direction, but they're scarce as hen's teeth.
Maybe this is something people have tried and it didn't work, but with all the CCW laws now, it would seem like a good time to try. I've heard too many people complain about jamming with their new little semi's and would love to steer them to a good revolver.

Dont forget the .32, and besides with revo's you could say for example shoot .38s out of .357 and .44 special out of .44 mag. Also smith and wesson and Taurus carry 7 shot snubbies for conceal carry however there is obviously extra cyllinder bulk. :) eidited to mention that with the revolver you may loose a few rounds and have a slower reload ( that is if you carry an extra mag for your auto, If you dont then the revo would be faster to reload than a magazine) you tend to have availability to more powerful rounds such as .357 mag among others. Id say I would raather have 5 .357's than 7 .32 or .380 autos for a concealable defense arm.

Small rev.

Yea, I was just thinking today that a 5 shot 32 mag rev. could be made pretty small. Probably effective ammo would be a handload proposition for now. I have heard of some folks adapting 32 acp to revolvers but that is "experimental". The little mag is about as hot as you can get unless you go to a larger Ruger revolver that shoots 30 carbine. Guess you could look around for a small used H&R in mag, but they are not smaller than a J frame, they are 6 shot, I think, I believe the grip part of the frame is smallish, like their 22's. But you would still end up with the same objections you get with the 32 or 380 autos. Claims of not powerful enough. Check out some of the little antique revolvers in 32 S&W. Used to be popular but that cartridge is pretty weak. But it might be enough for backup or just intimidation.

I guess you answered your own question, but they aren't that popular because so many people feel the .38sp cartridge is as low as they want to go on the power scale.

Actually, Taurus announced a 17 caliber small frame and a 9MM small frame revolver. Neither are readily available and might be dropped by now.

The smallest & lightest package I carry is a Taurus 85 Ultra-lite, 2" snub, 5 shots of .38+p w/a single speed loader of 5 additional rounds.

For most self defense scenarios/situations, it should be more than enough.

The last information I had said the Ruger SP-101 was 357 Magnum only. You might find a 9MM, 32 H&R/32 S&W long or 22 lr left over in a distributors inventory.

Ruger includes two SP-101 models in the list of .32 H&R mag revolvers on their web site .
here

I have a .32 mag SP-101 with 3" bbl and Wolff springs that's one of my favorites.
