Theoretical CCW question

Ok as some of you already know I got a CO2 pistol for my birthday this month. I have been shooting it a lot lately in my back yard. And while shooting it a bit today a question came into my mind. See, there's a gate in back of my backyard that connects to an alley way. And there's a pretty huge gap in the gate and lots of times the local LEOs patrol through all the alleys. I am very good friends with all the LEOs except one. Anyways, when some LEOs pass by my house and if they notice me in the backyard they always stop by and see how I am doing. We talk a bit and then they leave. Anyways, today while I was shooting my CO2 pistol, a LEO came through the alley and saw me and talked to me like always. I showed him the pistol and everything and took a few shots while he was watching. After wa talked a he left and said to be careful and everything.

Ok here's where the question comes in. Say for instance I was done shooting and put the gun in my pocket while I put up a new target or something and a LEO came. Would I be in trouble for having it in my pocket even though the grip is clearly visible and that I am on my own property? I have not done it though. I am just curious.

Don't know about California, but most states don't consider (or at least didn't used to) air guns to be firearms, so I would think as long as you weren't committing another crime at the same time, you'd be ok, but the best answer would be to check state law about ccw on your own property, and whether air guns count as firearms in your state.

Like jrfoxx said. In WA there is little to no laws concerning concealed carry on your own house/property.

I think the earlier posters are correct, CCW laws don't apply on your own property. However, where I used to live, discharging even an air pistol/rifle within the city limits was a no-no.

For most weapons violations here, an air rifle counts as a "weapon." (Ambiguous term??? I mean, a No. 2 pencil can be a "weapon" if you want it to be... but that's a different rant.)

Key to this scenario is that you're on your own property. In order to publicly carry a firearm, you have to be in public.

Good point, just wish we could get the lefty's to see it that way.
