The woman sleeps with a piece of pipe under her bed...

...ever since some punks parked themselves on her window ledge and were peering inside.

She also kicks ass with a handgun (when at the range with me). She is now considering gun ownership for herself. Likes the M1 carbine and SW686. Her friend is trying to get the courage up to go to the range for the first time.

Again, suggestions on the poster are welcome. Feel free to forward to anyone who'd be interested in the pic. Unfortunately, I shot the pics digitally and the resolution is limited.

Oleg. GREAT poster. I would replace the carbine with a shotgun.
Also I always wanted a poster that showed McGruff the Crime Dog and a pistol with the line...." When glass breaks at 3:00 a.m. which would you prefer?"

Oleg -
Not sure I'd change anything. If you do go with a shotgun, think a conventional wood stock would be best...

The only shotgun I have is an all-black 1300 Defender and even that is in repair. The carbine works because Amy likes it and knows how to use it. Her friend will get started on .22 bolt rifle and revolver. I will likely have a poster on the topic of depending "on your man" for protection. As much as that would gall most women, it ought to be even more ludicrous for people whose "man" is a tiny woman.

Oleg, if you are in OKC some of my guns are there. I know a shotgun or two and if they are not acceptable I know some friends who can locate something if you are interested. Even a Barrett Light 50 if you want, but not the best for home defense.

Oleg - keep the M1 - I love it. A shotgun is nice, but the Carbine adds weight to the idea that Sport Utility Weapons (ie- Assault Weapons) are a valid means of protection. Even better - add an AK. :)

M1 carbine was means for slightly trained users and is very appropriate. I will have shotguns featured later, don't worry :)

Mak90 coming later, ditto for SW49 and length of pipe...

I'm new to this forum, but my 2 cents would be that the picture show HER holding the gun rather than her son. That would intimate to me that she was actively defending her family.

Err, the two people shown are a couple (i.e. Amy and Therie). One of them is less timid than the other and is now investigating the ways of fulfilling her responsibility to defend herself and her girlfriend. Calling on the "man of the house" is not an option.

This poster is only a small part of a much more ambitious project trying to show the variety of beneficiaries of RKBA. Other image, when seen side by side, will provide for a context. And, no, I do not want to do chicks&guns or big&tough&rambo style images.
Just real people. BTW, TFLers in Minnesota are welcome to present themselves to the camera.

Welcome, Kathryn. Don't feel too bad--for a minute I thought it was Q (Oleg's girlfriend, I think) and her mother or something. I think I get it now. Broad shoulders, narrow minds, deep bull****. Sorry.

Almost forgot--I don't think a piece of pipe is a bad approach to self defense at all. Of course, I'd attach a few custom touches, like a semi-automatic action, stock, trigger and sights. Oh yeah, and a .223-inch inside diameter seems to work well.
:D

LOL! Why complicate things...a couple of pipes and some springs and you could have a Sten!

I too, thought the photo was of a woman and her son at first -- but once I realized that it was a female couple, I thought it was quite effective. Have you thought about adding a visual "clue" -- a rainbow pride stripe under the type, maybe -- to cue people in that we are talking about a gay couple?

Also, have you done any posters encouraging gays to arm themselves against gay-bashers? The Independent Gay Forum ran a pro-gun column with just such a message at http://www.indegayforum.org/articles/rauch47.html. I thought it was a great point, and one of your posters would probably make it that much bolder.

OOOOOOH...(light dawns)

I did find that hand touching a bit intimate for a mother and son. Wasn't sure why... :)

I LOVE the first one. I wish the NRA would start putting ads like this
out -- but they don't want to remind their ultra-right-wing membership
taht the RKBA goes for gays, too! Or am I reading more there than you
wanted to imply? [/quote]

I ran this by Janice Cortese and she got it, as have some other folks. Seems to me that the target audience would be more attuned to less obvious hints than an outright rainbow.

Great work Oleg. I really appreciate all of your efforts. Thanks again.

It is far better to dare mighty things, though riddled with failure, than to live in the dull grey of mediocrity.

I get the pun on "family values", but do admit when briefly glancing at "protecting/family" and then the picture it was confusing at first.

p.s. I'll never forget the time one of my highschool girlfriends came over and confused my older sister for my little brother. Oooooh boy :o .

Actually, you're right, it's not that funny when it happens a lot. I had a sixth grade student last semester who was constantly called "he" by guests in the room. Got to the point where I'd call on her first whenever I could so people would know her name was Sarah.

Well, Oleg, shut my mouth! Please excuse: dark clothes, no shadows ;), short haircut and a fresh face...

Isn't there is a wee age difference, here? Even if I could gender-pick the younger one, still looks like a parent-child thing.

The picture is ambiguous (and I think there's at least 8-10 years difference there, same as between me and my GF) but I don't mind it over much.

New images coming up shortly, a TFLer with spouse and kid and their arsenal :)
