The Wally World Special - 12ga.?

I was at my local Wal-Mart looking at guns (anywhere that has guns, I look :P) and I notived an all black, synthetic stocked, 12gauge pump for $159.99. I had been considering a Mossberg 590, a Remington 870 Marine Magnum, and a Benelli Nova in nickel. I am not so dumb as to think that the Wally World Special is going to compare evenly with these other fine 12 gauges, and at 1/3rd the price, I wouldn't expect it to. But, this is going to be my first shotgun, and it's not going to be abused, but used a lot. Primary goal here HD with a nod to a smooth action, and a finish that is easy to maintain, and can withstand being set down on not so finish friendly surfaces. If I remember correctly, barrel length was 22-24", which would make it a good starter for skeet or trap, provided the action is smooth. Anyone have any input? Know who makes these cheap wonders? Finish was blued, all black synthetic parts.

my guess would be a maverick but possibly an armscor or tristar? I have no experience with them but maverick is in cahoots with mossberg, not sure if they are a subsidiary of mossberg or how it works but have heard the maverick isnt bad. as you said its a lesser quality but from what I have heard its not a peice of crap either. I dont know anything about tristar or armscor shotguns though.

I gotta go with nimitz, 870's (even used ) are pretty much indestructractible and they get slicker with use. If you can find an old 870 Wingmaster, SHWEEEEEET!!!

I actually did pick up a used 870 Wingmaster at a gun show a few weeks pack, it's a WONDERFUL shotgun. What they said about the action is true - it's slicker and smoother than my friend's newer 870 Turkey, by a good bit.

So if $160 is your price range, check out a used 870. Other good choices are the Mossberg 500, the Ithaca M37, and the Winchester 1300. I've also heard good things about the Benelli Nova.

Keep in mind a brand new 870 Express from Wally World is something like $238. Not much more.

It's a Maverick 88, which is owned and made by Mossberg. It uses standard Mossberg barrels. Do a websearch and check out their website.

Get the maverick it has been more reliable than my 870's ive NEVER seen ANY kind of error all parts are interchangble save for the trigger group.
