The virulent unpatriotism growing today

All I'll say is, go read this column: http://www.townhall.com/columnists/JonahGoldberg/2006/09/13/conspiracy_nation

Here's how it starts:

There is a virulent form of unpatriotism festering in America today. Like an algae bloom that deprives life of oxygen, it starves democracy of the air of reason. It now thrives on what we call the far left, but like a dead zone off the coast, it moves with the tides.

I am referring to the seditious dementia of conspiracy theories, the death of faith not in some mere administration or Congress but in America itself.

Haven’t you heard? The U.S. government blew up the World Trade Center. Oh, sorry, that’s not right. The planes did knock down those buildings, but the White House was in on it. Oh, no, sorry again, that’s not what happened. It was the Jews. They razed it without leaving any fingerprints — save for the 4,000 Zionist co-conspirators who were tipped off in advance — in order to frame the peace-loving Muslims of al-Qaida. (Those crafty Hebrews are always coming up with clever ways to make Islamic fanatics look bad, like getting blown up.) Bin Laden’s admission that he did it? Well, of course. He’s in on it.

+++++++

There's more, this is just the start.

When your country goes far beyond what it is supposed to do to protect its citizens, patriotism is damaged.

When your country vigorously prosecutes victimless crimes but punishes vicious murderers with 7 years, patriotism is damaged.

When your country brags about your protection under its constitution and then finds every loophole possible to take control of your life (the commerce clause comes to mind), patriotism is damaged.

When your country stops taking care of its own and uses those resources to meddle in the affairs of other nations not a threat to its citizens, thereby actually creating threats to its own citizens, patriotism is damaged.

It's pretty easy. Go back to the constitution as the basis for our government, and you'll have a lot more patriots.

Archer:

Not only do I disagree, but I find your premise offensive.

Just because I cannot believe that a giant 757 can't punch a teeny little hole in the Pentagon that somehow make me unpatriotic? Pullllleeeaaaasssseeee. This country would crumble in a day without very healthy septicism of what the government says.

We have pacifists, anti-gun nuts and communists in this country. But they're OUR pacifists, anti-gun nuts and communists and if you don't fight as hard for them and their right to disagree with you, it is you that is guilty of sedition.

There is a document we call the Constitution around here. You may want to study it before your next post. Obviously you're completely unfamiliar with the document.

Archer, show me some good credible proof that a massive invasion by terror cells is looming, and they intend to wipe out all our liberties, not some speculation.... or else, you're just as much a conspiracy theorist.

just because I'm not easily swayed by media-fueled fearmongering, doesn't mean I'm unpatriotic.

p.s. : is that column writer wearing a priest robe?? can't be...his last name is goldberg; though might as well be Copeland on a pulpit, with that somewhat ranting tone.
