The UN Declaration of Human Rights (as footnoted by Covert Mission)

Covert Mission

This is something I posted on the NY Times Gun Control Forum, in response to a statement that the US Constitution & BOR was an antiquated document, and the new model for the new millenium is The UN Declaration of Human Rights. This thing is such a piece of New Age feel-good self-flagellation and merely a wishlist, which surely 75% of UN members violate daily. My contention is that our system is anchored by a real document, with a system of check and balances, however imperfect. I couldn't help but AMEND the UN Declaration, and have some fun with it:

The UN Declaration of Human Rights (as footnoted by Covert Mission)

Article 1
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
All you Serbs, get over it. The Field of Blackbirds massacre was 500 yrs ago, fer crissake

Article 2
Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.
Hey India, dontcha think that Caste System is a bit dated?

Article 3
Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the security of person.
Hutu, Tutsi, WHATEVER.

Article 4
No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.
What! Slaves still being sold in Africa...by other black Africans. Can it be?

Article 5
No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
Don't worry, honey. In a few years you won't even remember your clitoris!

Article 7
All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection against any discrimination in violation of this Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination.
i

Article 8
Everyone has the right to an effective remedy by the competent national tribunals for acts violating the fundamental rights granted him by the constitution or by law.
"What constitution. We don't need no stinking constitution." -- (pick a despot)

Article 9
No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.
What prison? It's a TOY factory. Toys for America.

Article 13
1. Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each State.
2. Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.
By raft, cargo container, or foot. At night. Verrrry quietly.

SHALL I GO ON????????

I especially like the small print that satesthat everybody is entitled to all these rights as long as their "enjoyment" does not contradict the doctrines of the UN. Cant remember the exact wording, but its in the charter somewhere. Kind of like the UN has now replaced God.

Ok, only if it's for the children. ;) After reading it my conclusion is that your adders are by far hold more truth then any word written by the UN. After all , all of the people in the gun control hall o fame sounded just like that & we know they wouldn't lie.

Did you give the NY times guys the "new & improved version" ?
