The Taurus Non View

I was watching a video done at the 2015 Shot Show that showed a new incarnation of the Taurus View. This model has a metal sideplate rather than the Lexan one on the original View. The explanation was that Taurus pulled the old model from production because you could see how dirty the inside of the revolver got after only a few rounds. I actually like the new gun a lot better. I don't think it will replace my pocket 380s or J-frame but it is interesting.
Sorry, I can't remember who did the video. I have watched several about new guns at the Shot Show.

Very cool. I think most people loved the size of the view, just hated the actual view part. I will want one now for sure. 9mm please

I wonder what the cost of the side plate is?

I would think it would be so low that they could throw one in or make them available and then you could choose view or no view.

I think it would be kind of neat to see how dirty the 'innards' of my handgun are getting round by round. But I don't think I'd want to live with the transparent side plate permanently.

A real disadvantage to the transparent side plate is it would tempt me to take it off and play with the parts. A very wise person once told me taking off the side plate of a nice S&W DA revolver would be a good idea if I wanted to play with the parts on the bench instead of ever shooting the gun again. (I think the person had a very realistic view of my optimistic attitude verses my mechanical abilities.)

Eh? OK.

The plastic sideplate is not what made me dubious about the View.

Isn't that the criticism all us old timers made?:D

NOW I'm interested!

The Taurus gun is actually the same frame as all the other 5 shot .38s.
The only thing that makes the gun smaller is the tiny grip and the very short barrel.

6/10 of an inch of the barrel, smaller grips, and a plastic side plate = 6 ounces in weight?

There's less metal in the barrel for it also not having Taurus's usual shroud around the ejection rod. (Maybe it shouldn't even be called a "rod" in this case. Nub? )
