The Tale of Two 9MM's

I realize from the topic title that this would appear to be a thread for Handguns & Pistolcraft, but bear with me for a moment.
For some time now I have shot less and less. I had tried to convince myself that it was simply because I had lost interest over the years and was now focused solely on building guns. But recently after buying Terri's first gun, a Taurus PT92, 9mm I realized that was not the case. I love shooting the little 9 (a caliber I do not hold in high regard) and came to except the fact that the reason I was shooting less was because, due to my arthritis, my .44's were beating me up too much. (This was discussed in the thread in HG&PC a couple of weeks ago.)
After excepting this and the fact that I am, in spite of my best efforts, getting older I decided that I needed a 9MM, my first. Call it my version of a mid-life crisis if you will. ;)
My quest lead me to a mint Smith & Wesson model 59. In casual conversation I mentioned the impending new purchase to my dear old, saintly mother. After my glowing description she immdediately said she wanted my new love. (She is a collector and has been looking for a 9MM.) I grumbled to no avail and finally agreed to let her have the new gun.
In my dismay I renewed my quest and located a used mint S&W model 5904 for slightly more money.
Today I returned home with both guns to discover that my dear old, saintly mother was at mine and Terri's house. She looked at both guns, said I would have to give her instructions on the proper safety features of the semi-auto (her first) and left.
Terri then broke the news to me. The reason she, my dear old, saintly mother had insisted that she wanted the model 59 was because she was getting it for my birthday coming up in Novemeber. (Yet another reminder that I am getting older....did I mention that this is in spite of my best efforts?)
So now I find myself "stuck" with not one but two new (to me at least) 9MM's. God bless my dear old, saintly mother. I wish every gun enthusiast had one just like her. :)

My mother ( now 86 ) has never been in the gun scene, but in fall of 1970 she DEMANDED to know what to get me for Christmas. I showed her an ad for a .44 percussion pistol kit( New Orleans Ace from Classic Arms ). I still have and cherish that little boot-pistol and have acquired 3 more to keep it company! Aren't Mothers wonderful!!!

paranoia can be comforting when they really are out to get You!

Slinger, God Bless Your Mom! Mine was the driving force in my first hand gun acquisition, a Ruger Single Six, and she loved to go for a ride on the boats and the bikes! I miss her!

Gunslinger, 9 mm ARRGGGGGGGGGGGGG! Gotta say I'm .45 and am looking for a Browning Practical in .40. Have you tried venerable compensator? My mom was red-headed Irish and I tell everyone that even though she's dead I'm still afraid of her! I think if she were alive she'd buy me a 9 mm. but not a S/w!

dang man i gotta get the highest possible scores on tests to get my mom to buy me pistols.

get yourself a cool double shoulder holster rig and then a pair of practical holsters.

and enjoy.

p.s. good choice with the pt92.
