to have the wood refinished (as per my previous posts). HOWEVER, the gunsmith that is working on it has also mentioned the possibility of inlaying a little of the engraving with silver and/or gold - your thoughts on "upgrading" the engraving on a field-grade Superposed?

I would not have that done. It's only paint, if you really want it done you can do it your self.

Take a look at Art's gun Shop www.artsgunshop.com Brownings are his stock and trade. Any work done by Art is a plus for any Browning.
 
True inletting in silver and gold requires "dovetailing" the steel to provide an anchorage for the softer precious metal. As jaguarxk120, mentioned, just filling the existing with metallic paint can be done by anyone. It's a cheap way to try to up-grade your gun and usually the results look cheap. However, there are some models that had gold paint from the factory, and paint sticks can be used to touch them up.

If you want something original, have your stock finisher inlet a gold medallion in your stock that has your monogram engraved. Here's a pic showing part of one on a custom stocked Perazzi:

I wouldn't do it. But if you feel otherwise get a look at other engraing the smith has done before approving. I've seen more than one nice gun ruined because a gunsmith thought he could engrave.

 I hate to admit it, but sometimes they do. This was ordered by a guy who got strapped for cash and I got it for the same price as a Perazzi with standard wood. Luckily the guy's initials are the same as my wife's. The medallion isn't something I'd normally do; but, I've had factory grip caps re-done with a monogram. (Some OEM grip caps are two piece with the center oval covering the screw. Have a trophy shop do a monogram on a matching oval. The new oval gives your gun a custom look for a very small investment.)
 
I wouldn't do it. To me, changing the configuration of a good collectible like a Superposed is not an upgrade, it's a desecration.
 
yeah Zippy I know, my cousin got one of those free upgrades ,paxton said I hope you don't mind they screwed up on the wood!!! what do they call it lopso opso or some I talian thing?
 
Update.....

Nothing but wood refinishing going on. I could not bring myself to alter it further. Pics after I get it back however, to compare it to the "before" post.
