The Sog Flash Ii Knife

THE SOG FLASH II KNIFE

I few weeks ago I was perusing a catalogue from Midsouth in search of some gun cleaning equipment when I saw this knife at an affordable price.
I had been hearing of the opening-assisted knives for some time, and decided that it was time to own one of them. What attracted me to this particular one is that with the side closing thumb-operated lever, there is no need to ever touch the blade and one hand can be used to open and close the knife (you close it by pressing the blade against the side of your body, while operating the side lever).

There is a clip on the right side of the handle that serves (excellently) to keep it on the top of your pocket. Deploying this knife quick is quite easy.

The blade is extremely sharp, and it locks solidly in the kraton casing/handle. There is no play of the blade at all when it is in the open position, and it only requires a very small push with the thumb to spring the blade open.
There is also a safety tab which will lock the blade from opening; in the weeks that I have been using it, I haven’t felt the need of keeping it on safety.

The other day I had to use it to field dress a deer, as I had forgotten my regular hunting knife in the rush of the early morning departure to the hunting area.
The SOG Flash II performed like a hunting knife, and was just as sharp and the blade was still tight when the job was finished as when I started it, so I am very much pleased with my purchase.

Not about firearms but,

I already posted this picture elsewhere, but it seems fitting for here

Love this knife, Its kind of hard to put a real nice edge in it, but the knife itself seems almost indestructible. Real tight/strong lock-up too.

I have a couple of them. I have quite a few SOG knives in general with the most recent being the Vulcan that I like quite a bit for some of the same reasons you like the Flash II. I like the Twitch II better in general than the Flash series for a small knife for the pocket.

I came really close to getting the flash 2 one time, but it seemed a bit lightly-constructed for my taste - I dunno. Seems like some nice features though.

I love SOG Knives, but I don't really like the Flash series. It really depends on what you want to use it for. The Flash is a good pocket utility. But if you carry a knife for self defense reasons, try something else. The locking mechanism takes too long to disengage. I chose the Mini X-Ray Vision. And as soon as it becomes available, the Visionary.

I had problems with the picture hosting site, and I can't edit my original post.

So here are the pictures that are missing in the original post

Mine's lasted me for quite a while, but i did manage to break the pocket clip (snapped off at the bend, most likely got caught on something) :( for the last year i've been carrying a very cheap, but surprisingly well built no-name liner locked one-hand opener

I also have a SOG mini pentagon, though i don't really carry it. carrying even a folder is a risky buisness here in Norway, and if i was caught with something as "intimidating" as the mini pentagon i'd probably end up in the nick instead of having it confiscated and getting fined. Not to mention it's a good chance i'd loose my guns if caught breaking the law in this way. If caught with a folder i'd probably get off with the "Good Reason" clause in the law, as it's a tool.

SOG make really good knives.

Flash II

I've got one too, and it's great.

Our unit gave them out as gifts of appreciation for those of us who reenlisted. Laser engraved unit crest on the blade.
I got mine this past April in Iraq. I carry it almost religiously now. Used to be I kept one knife in my ACU's and one for civilians, but this one is now a full time tool.
I love how light it is. It's easy to operate and the nearly flat profile makes it easy and comfortable to carry.
It has a very versatile blade. It's light enough for fine work, heavy enough for bigger jobs like zip-cuffs, fuel hoses, and cargo straps (have used it on all three of those, and then some).
I'll agree with one of the previous that it is a bit of a pain to get a good edge on it, but once there, it holds it a while. Also, it's not a big deal to spend the 5 or 6 bucks every couple months to have a pro do it.
I have plenty of other knives. I think most gun guys also accumulate knives as a corollary, but this one really shines for me as an everyday utility tool.

By the way, mine is the clip-point, half plain half serrated, if anyone is comparing.
