Sounds like Ruger AR-556, Colt 6920, LWRC IC-DI 556, and Daniel Defense V7 are some good choices at around 32 inches with the stock collapsed. Not going to happen. 30in is about as short as you are going to get with the stock collapsed.
Barrel, 16in
upper receiver 7in
buffer tube 7in
Only way to get it shorter would be to use a folding stock system like the LAW but they are expensive ($200), can induce reliability issues, and you cannot fire the gun with stock folded. On top of that they will only save you about 6 inches, getting you down to 24. https://www.primaryarms.com/law-tactical-ar-folding-stock-adapter-gen-3-m-for-ar15-and-ar308
So the ATF requires a minimum OAL of 26” which makes me curious how this applies to an AR due to the adjustable stock. Does it mean that with the stock fully collapsed it must be at least 26” OAL?What are the shortest AR-15s that meet these two criteria:
- Must have a barrel that is 16 inches or longer, and
- Must have an overall length of less than 26 inches?
